I was in the Blackburn P@H today getting a few treats and they had 3 largish guineapigs.

Does anyone know what happens to the ones they can't sell? These were obviously older, probably about 5 months by the size of them and I was worried if they don't sell them what happens next?

Also, all three were lying down fast asleep which I thought unusual in the middle of the day. I guess they've been there that long that they're used to the lights/noise/rabbits etc.

On the plus side they all had access to hay, food and water, although of course they were mixed in with the bunnies >:(

I've seen this shop sell them off at half price before, not sure what happens to them after that if they don't go :(
Have no idea what the official policy is?

Another pet shop near us gives them away free to the proverbial good home ::)

I have personally seem larger pigs in Pets At Home local to me in smaller indoor cages with a sticker on giving them a Name and a sad story they are normall half price also.
Once an animal has been given a name its been given a personality and thats why the do it. You will go up to the cage and look and say 'Aww noone wanted Snowy, and hes only £10, lets take him home'.

at the mo,the nottingham one has lots and lots of males and females in and theyre all more or less babies :o

theres some real pretty and cute ones too,and very unusual colours :o

mum went there today to get some playthings for the piggies and was gobsmacked at how many they have in

I just wondered if anyone's seen P@H give free to good home? Didn't know if it was worth asking for these three, although I might struggle for space at the moment - Gemma's got my spare cage for Evie who's about to give birth

Never free at my stores ::)
They'll squeeze any money out of the animals they can. If you have room to take them, you could ask if they will give them to you though...no harm. But as I always say, pop in a few weeks/months later and there will posssibly be more :-\

You have to do what you feel is right. I wouldn't pay them a penny for them though if it were me...but it of course it isn't.

when i wrnt in ti to my pets at home at weekend there only had 2 guinea pigs and abou 2 rabbits

We went in this morning ,the staff said they have some 4 week old babies in the back and they werent ready yet..I'm sure they shouldnt have been taken away and given to P@ H this early or are they breeding them themselves? >:( I know you can seperate them from their mums at about 4 weeks but there sounds something dodgy there...
all the pgs they had were males ( some real cute and pretty ones ) and there were lots of them
we saw a couple of rabbits picking on one of the lil guys, which kinda pee'd us off as he wasnt very old and he was then hiding at the back
*sighs* I wish they would seperate them..one of the staff ( a girl) was continually giving us filthy looks as mum had mentioned that we have a lotta piggies, she also tutted when we asked if they had got something in stock,I'm glad we decided to leave..I think i wouldve ended up slam dunking her head on the floor if she had carried on,sorry but i cant stand people like that, especially when they think they know it all and work in a place like P@ H,she made me damn angry >:( >:(

Sorry this is a bit late, but i have only just joined and been looking through the past posts. When pets at home have animals that are too old to sell they offer them up for adoption, and just ask for a contribution towards their animal charity. I have seen this many times in my local store, and i actually adopted a hamster this way as it only had one eye, but obviously from everybody else's experiences some stores in other places do things differently to my store because i have never seen one for sale at half price.

we saw the babies that they kept in the back today, theyre in the main area with the other pigs and rabbits now and OMG theyre gorgeous, lil ginger babies.with white fluffy crests

Yesterday they only had rabbits. By the looks of it the ones that weren't 'cute' enough for Xmas pressies. I hear them say they were waiting on new stock.. >:(

*sighs lots* what the hell is wrong with that place,it makes me so mad >:(

The staff don't even care who touches the animals. I was petting one of the rabbits and the staff just walked by me. For all they knew I could have stolen it. They also had 3 rabbits in a bird aivry thing.

ok stuff it,next time I go in I'm coming out with pockets stuffed with piggies,I dont care
