Who thinks that the prices at p@h are ridiculous.
i got my two pigs from there for £32 pound jus for two and one of them was ill nearly as soon as i brought him home i brought him in and he recovered fine.
I have been very disapointed in p@h, and also i can ge a fairly good size bag down my local pet shop for £1.8 and at pets at home the same size bag is like £6.00 or more and even a smaller bag is really expensive.
I find it ridiculous you would think more of them for being a ig country wide pet shop!! >:( >:( >:( :-\ :-\ :( :( :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

have no idea of the conversion rate but for male piggies here where we live is $15.00(around 7 pounds) and for a female $25.00(around 12 pounds) straw is $10.95(around 5% pounds) and hay$15.95 a bale (around 7 pounds).
if you are not happy with p&h especially with sickly piggies report them, thats what i did with the fodder store up here and i kept reporting them until they sold up. and if you are unhappy with their prices shop where you can get it cheaper. if less people shop at p&h then they will either lower prices or sell up. good for you and getting your baby well, i would suggest next time take photos, keep reciepts and all vet reciepts when you buy a piggy and report the place you got the piggy from and keep at it until something is done. hugs and cuddles to you and your babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Blimey £32 is cheap for 2 guineas I paid £19.50 each so £39 and since found out 1 of the ones they sold me was sexed wrong! :tickedoff:

I'm trying to find another local pet shop now to buy food and bedding from x ;)

I don't use pet shops that sell animals. I get all my products from pampared piggies now. I prefer to get my pigs from rescues, as all money goes to their welfare. I do have 2 pet shop pigs though and I adore them, but that was before i realised there were such things as rescues for gp's :)

I didn't realise either till I came on this site otherwise would have gone to a rescue. :)

The maximum I have paid is £80 and that was for Kanika, but I would never normally pay over £20 for a purebreed when I do buy them in never mind a P@H special, hehe!
I only have Fred now from P@H and she was a gift over 5yrs ago. I think she was only £12 but could have been cheaper. I know breeders normally ask around £10 per pig but some are more or less depending on breed and pedigree.

Sunshine cost me £15.00 from a small pet shop Twinkle was from Pets at home and cost £19.00. Cuzzy cost me nothing as I got money back on him as he had mites.

I donated money for the girls as they were from Graham's rescue, Eccles was from a vets and they didn't want anything for him just a loving home, Pudsey was from P@H adoption and he was free as well. :smitten:

When I asked about two piggies in the adoption part of P@H I was told they were £10 each

Yeah I think it varys from store to store. Pudsey was 3 months when I got him and I think they were just happy to see him go to a home. The guy in St Helens knew his stuff. :)

These piggies were about 3 years old and I thought it was a bit of a cheek to ask so much

Probably ex breeding stock! Feel so sad for those pigs. Yes it was cheeky of them!

ive never gotten piggys from pets at home, and dont think i ever would. the only piggy i have bought, was bought for me by my mum and that was merlin. he was £14 and worth every penny :smitten: :smitten: i normally wouldnt buy from shops, merlin was an exception.

i know P@H is expensive but they do sell a few good things

their hay is terrible though

I have got piggies from P@H in the past. Damon came from there with his friend Graham, who died a few months later. I think I paid £19 each for them. Ruby is from the P@H rescue section, but wasnt a rescue, she was just put there because they couldnt sell her. I was told this was because she is 'ugly'! Pepper was a gift from my Mum, and I think she came from Mum's friend who had an unwanted litter due to wrongly sexed pigs from a pet shop. I dont know if it was P@H. Peggy is from a rescue.

I rescued a hamster from P@H today. I kept going in there (to see if they put the excercise ball signs up), and kept seeing the poor guy. He is an ex-stud hamster, from one of the breeders that supplies P@H and has a leg that doesnt work. They made me pay £3 for him, and wouldnt accept a lower donation!

I got two sheltie crosses from P@H a good 8 or so years ago - probably more - and they were £18.50 each even then! Haven't bought any there since. This was near London.

I live in the country now and pigs cost about £8 from a garden centre or pet shop, maybe £10 for girls. In the local paper they're usually a fiver.

Pure bred pigs seem to be around £25 or even £30.

I don't think pets at home should sell them at all, but I guess by putting a higher price on them they are narrowing down the impulse buys - I hope! If they were a fiver - well!

At least with rescue the donation is going back into a good cause. My rescue pigs had a set donation of £15 per pig. Perhaps if you take a pair or trio it should be less.

Is the rescue donation going to a good cause? Or just to P@H profits?

Thats OK! :) Where does the P@H rescue money go though? I heard they have a P@H Charitable Fund? Whats that used for?

I don't know - they haven't got a website at the moment (they are using the same providers as the company that I work for, so I know they've had probs!) so I can't look on there to see if there's any info about it. I would HOPE it went to local animal charities - but you never know!

Hope the hammy is ok!

:)

I don't have a problem with the *animals* being high prices - surely if they are more expensive, people are more likely to think twice about buying them - which can only be a positive thing.

In terms of the adoption, the charity is a totally separate entity to the company - the company has put funds into the charity, but it doesn't work the other way around! As far as I know money is distributed amongst various rescues and rescue organisations, but I think it's also used to cover vets bills for animals which have been dumped or abandoned in the store.

Their are no set donation, however we don't want to give people the impression that they are free or a cheap option.
I have adopted 5 piggies from the adoption centre and paid £15 for each of them, my personal choice. :)

In regards to the prices although many things are slighty more expensive they offer a greater range of products and have regular money saving offers.

I would never pay P@H prices for a guinea pig or 2 :o I would however give the adoption piggies a new home by giving them £5 per piggy but no more :)
My most expensivest piggy was £20 but i paid for petrol costs with that too O0
P@H i think are kind of ok on the prices of guinea pig products though as i buy like 5 domes each tim e i go in there and the 10pk of corn on the cobs and the willow balls and stick packs :D

ive never had a pigy from pets at home, the only thing i find a good price there are their willow value packs which consist of 3 willow stsick bundles and 3 willow balls for £5.00

i dont buy any hay there i get all my stuff from pampered piggies, much better looking at they always tuck in :)

i have got all 5 of my piggies from P@H as i though it would be better if i took them and cared for them rather than someone gettin them and wont care for them at all

the piggies at my store are £19.50 each or a pair for about £26 i think it is

my p@h store encourage people to buy two, so it's more expensive to buy one on it's own than it is to get two together...kind of like buy one get one half price (horrible to think of it like that though). I think it's £32 for 2, and almost £20 for one.
I have paid £10, £12 & £15 for piggies. I think the higher the cost the less chance of impulse buying though

I agree, and I wish they charged more if they insist on selling live animals to be honest. It may encourage people to think twice before that impulse buy!

when i got my girlies 6 years ago ithink i paid £8 for them each, and approx £10 for the others, I got Lola and archie (from different places) last year and paid i think £16 for lola, and £18 for archie
