I buy these every other week or so - They are £5 and you get 10 sweetcorn things in there and my piggies LOVE them :smitten:

I gave mine some more yesterday and half of them have ate all theres :o :D

Anyone else tried them for their piggies :)

My wee local pet store sells these too - though you only get 2 in a pack. It took my piggies a few weeks to start eatting them - once they started though they quickly went. ;D

my piggies hate them :( they much prefer half a cabbage or broccoli. In asda they have big brocolis for 50p a pop!

Well mine love them ;D Ive used them for ages now and wont stop buying them now as theyll miss them ;D

I prefer to buy these than something they wont eat - they have everything such as them stick things you get in a pack willow balls. chew toys and they like these the best

Errr... they won't miss them. Give them a chube or something to chew on and loads of hay. Give them fresh corn. I've seen a piggy struggle to get one of the kernals off their teeth (a few years ago, never knew they were bad, never used them since) and it is not nice.

The only treats gps need are fav.fresh veggies. The commercial "treats" are rubbish and could damage the gps health. Remember ,the makers of these things are not concerned about animal health, they just want to make profit, and as long as naive people buy these things, they will profit.

so your saying I'm naive ? :o

Naive means you don't know any better so now you do, don't feed 'them it! It's simple!
I know what naive means ? Who said i didnt no they werent GREAT for them ? I know most things i give them isnt good for them as they are pets and they were from the wild so cant compare to that can i and who said i cant still give it to them ?

You're right, it is up to you whether or not you give it to them. You now have information that it's not good for them and could present a risk to their health. If you want to risk it, that's your choice.

Why not just feed them fresh sweetcorn? It's not as though there's a huge difference in price.

because whatever i say on this forum its bad for them >:( I'm sick of it - i try and post something then i get yelled at for something pathetic ?

Like i did buy sweetcorn once for them and even my mum cooked it all for them then i still get people on here saying its bad for them :-\
what is good for a guinea pig - nothing at the end of the day except food, hay and water no matter whether its pellets or a mix - its upto the owners

No need to get upset. People are giving you advice... it's not pathetic if your guinea pig could choke to death on it. I don't know about the other post regarding sweetcorn... perhaps it was because it was cooked (it doesn't need to be) or from a can? The sweetcorn I'm referring to is the corn on the cob, green husks and silk still attached.

Forums are a place where people share opinions and knowledge and unfortunately sometimes people don't like advice they are given. Nobody can make you do anything... the choice is up to you.

it was frozen so i made my mum cook it ? surely nothings wrong with that 98) I think sometimes people think guinea pigs need special care just cause they need to make their own vit c - i dont have much vit c doesnt mean anything to me really so shouldnt think itd harm guinea pigs :P

ILA if you look on thistle cavies website they show pics of what happens when pigs arent fed a correct diet. piggies shouldnt have frozen food, should all be fresh :)

The vitamin C content drops dramatically when thawing after freezing and you lose almost all the rest during cooking which is why fresh and uncooked is best.

With humans, because vitamins are added to practically everything we eat and drink you'd really have to go some to end up with a serious vitamin deficiency. You'd be surprised just how much vitamin C you consume without knowing it! If you're not taking care of yourself as well as you could be that's your choice. Guinea pigs can't make the choice for themselves which is why it's our duty as owners to meet their needs.

And ifwe don't care for ourselves properly...

It may get to a point where we can't care for out piggies properly.

MaryH what about the rosewood pet products "naturals" treat range that thistle cavies and pampered pigs sell.
That is what mine get.

ILA do you have a tescos near you?

if you do the corn on the cob is really cheap, i buy 10 husks for £3 from there, throw them in and sit and watch , and if you fancy a bit of fun place a bet on who will win the tug of war that will start up,

and the vit c in there is out of this world, and the guineas purr when they eat, well mine do and it is the only food they do it with,

Just give it a try and if you find it is better using the dried ones at least you have tried,

the only down side to fresh veg is it can't be stored like the treats you have brough.

Lidl have corn for 24p sometimes with the husk as well. If you have one close by. :)

I have not seen the rosewood treats, will have to have a look.If Thistle Cavies sell them they are probably o.k.

I still maintain though that veggie treats are best.

Oh thanks - mums just gone tescos now without me - so will ring her now :D

mine like those fresh corn on the cobs, but i can only get two in pack and it's about £1.80, but they do enjoy it - I have never given mine frozen food cose as soon as I read not for piggies, I didn't even think about it twice!

ROFL Emma, I didn't bother to check the name at the top! I'm so dozy (getting that in before Kelly does...lol) ;D
