Parsley was neutered today: his lady friend Clover (already spayed due to uterine bleeding) died last month and I don't want him to be an only pig. Well, he's pigging away downstairs - he ate all the greens I left at the vets for after the operation and he's tucking into dandelions, hay etc. at the moment! What a relief.:))

I'm glad he's happy and ok! My little Spud goes in to be neutered on Friday...I am giving the vets some dandelions and celery for him to wake up to :) I'm going to be on my toes all day worrying about him!

I am so glad htat the op has gone so well!

Wishing your boy a speedy and problem free recovery and much fun meeting his new lady friend!

I was concerned too, but it's not a major procedure (even though they all carry risks, obviously). I was prepared to be administering Baytril, painkiller etc. but the vet says he won't need them! Once Spud is through the surgery just keep him warm and quiet (preferably indoors for a couple of days) and tempt him with yummy treats. I've had piggies recover from hernia repairs, bladder stone removal, all sorts - they usually surprise me by their resilience!

Hope Spud gets on fine, try not to worry and keep us posted.

Thankyou for the advice! I want to keep him indoors, probably on fleece ir vetbed to avoid any uncomfortable incidents with shavings/sawdust...Mum isn't convinced but a few days in my room won't do him any harm and I would like him to be somewhere warm and safe where I can keep an eye on him :)
He loves his food so I'm packing him up a little lunchbox of tiny portions of his favourite veggies for afterwards, and tempting him with treats should be easy once we get him home!
Thankyou, I will let you know how it goes!

Good news! I have a boy here (Duke) who was neutered last week. I have him indoors on fleece with daily changes to make sure he doesn't get an infection.

It's always wonderful when they are eating and acting normally. Good news and well done to Parsley! :)

Glad Parsley's op went well! :)

Teddy had his op a few weeks ago and I know how worrying it can be waiting to call. The vet usually give a pain killer injection straight after the op which the nurse told me lasts for about 24 hours. I was surprised at how quickly Teddy bounced back, he was a bit quiet for about 24hours and then he was back to normal :)

Glad to hear that Parsley's (and Duke's and Teddy's) op went well and he'd recovering happily :)

Good luck to Spud - sure he'll be fine ;)

I didn't hang around I got him in for the next day after getting him, only to find Dolly pregnant and he can't go in with her until she's weaned her babies so no rush after all. Poor boy has to live on his own a while longer.

Update on Parsley: he's doing fine, you'd never know he'd had surgery. Obviously I'm giving him extra TLC but I can't stop him popcorning when he's out on the grass! I check the affected area(!) every so often and it all looks healthy, no infection, hair growing back etc. Thanks for all your good wishes.

Hope little Spud is doing ok:)

Glad to hear that he is healing well, obviously if he is popcorning so much he is a happy boy!

Glad to hear that Parsley and all the other recently neutered boars are doing so well.

Soozn, if you don't mind me asking, which Vet did you use? And did they do all the other piggy ops you mentioned also? Just wondering as I'm not far from you (Chesham) and after a bad experience with my local Vet I now prefer to travel down to an experienced guinea pig Vet in Surrey, for significantly better treatment. It'd be great to know if there was a highly recommended cavy savvy Vet more locally though :)

Glad Parsley is well! Spud ended up not going in on Friday - the vets I went to was awful (I even made a thread about it)
Instead, he is booked in for this Friday, at the same vets I use for my bunnies. He thanks you for your thoughts! :)
