Hello everyone I'm a forum a newbie with a question. I had a beautuful 1 1/2 year old Piggy she had no signs of illness? Her appetite was the same as it always was her weight was fine no weight loss. She was active loving and still pop corning when she was happy. One day two hrs after she had cuddle time we found her deceased. She was in her pigloo all streched out like she had been sleeping I was devastated! Now I'm worried about my other piggys! I'm wondering if it was a heart problem that killed her, I have another piggy with pea eye. I Read that it is usually harmless but can be a sign of heart problem's the piggy in question is the deceased piggy's sister. My guineas unfortunately are inbred by piggys that were brother and sister. They were wrongly sexed by the people I got them from and the female was unknowingly pregnant. Does anyone have any advice I dont want to lose another piggy.I will take her to the vet if you think I should money is tight but dont worry I will find the money to take her no matter what!

I am very sorry! With indiscriminate breeding/inbreeding, there is sadly a higher risk of a sudden death from heart failure at any age. It's like living with a time bomb in your heart with no outward sign. Pea eye doesn't always mean heart problems and these are not always diagnostible. :(

I have lost a couple of my younger rescue piggies from a bad background myself to sudden acute heart failure, so I feel for you!

It is one of the symptoms yes but other symptoms are more important such as laboured breathing, nodding, hooting, random coughing, bloating and lethargy. It is likely that your pig did have a heart attack but this does not necessarily mean the others will have one too. I am sorry for your loss.
