My sisters guinea pig has a pea sized lump on her back. She has a vet appointment on Friday. I was just wondered what steps should the vet be taking to find out what it is and anything else she should know before hand. I just worried they are not very cavy savy. Thanks

Only a vet will be able to determine what it is, not all lumps are sinister so try not to worry (easier said than done) sometimes they can be a harmless fatty lump but a vets check is so important. Whatever it is you have caught it early.

All the best

Thanks, I’m sure it’s nothing serious as she is her usual self 👍🏻

I’ve had piggies with all sorts of lumps that have appeared quite suddenly. Please don’t worry or second guess what it might be. The vet can usually diagnose it there and then and reassure you. Please let us know how you get on.

Betsy has had a couple of lumps for around 18 months. One is near her shoulder and it moves up and down rather like a ganglion (Cyst on the nerves) and the other is in her armpit. Neither of them have grown any bigger and I check them thoroughly at the weekly check.

The vet checked it over, didn’t take a sample of the lump because she’s very timid and didn’t want to put her under any unnecessary stress.
She is my sisters guinea pig so I may not have the exact info, but the vet apparently said he thinks she has an infection in her throat glands and that’s why the cyst has come about on her rump, does this seem right?
He gave her loxicom and baytril in the hopes the cyst will disappear.
