Pellets

Hi everyone
My piggies are soon to run out of their burgess excel pellets, and while we have some in the garage from forever ago I think they’re stale now . I’m paying for everything else at the moment and won’t be able to get pellets until early feb, will they be ok to go without and how would I go about reintroducing them? Thank you x

As long as they have unlimited hay which is making up 80% of their diet and fresh veggies making up 15% with pellets only making up 5%, I should think they would be fine for a week or two without pellets x

I have heard they don't even need pellets in their diet permanently and it can be better for them to go without as they are generally high calcium and not the best thing for them. I only give my five around 5 pellets a day each by hand only because they enjoy them but I only give them as a treat.

I think I give mine 7-8 each per day, never thought about hand feeding them I think that could be a lovely bonding time each day they have two little bowls they have them out of x

Maybe start just giving a few by hand each day, it'll make what you have left last slightly longer and like you say a lovely bonding experience. I'm sure all will be forgiven when you buy the next bag

That’s a good idea.

I used to give my boys pellets in the morning and veg at night but now I’ve got more animals, I’m starting splitting half veg in the morning and half veg at night. I suddenly realised two days ago that in giving the piggies veg at breakfast as well I had forgotten to give them their pellets (they’re always scatter fed so I don’t even see whether there’s anything in bowls) for the last three or four days. i don’t think they’ve even noticed - they eat their veg and then tuck into the fresh hay pile!
