It went really well today, lovely service in this clinic (Elwood and Briggs, Kirton near Boston), Penny was very well behaved... well, more petrified than behaved lol. She had an anti-inflammatory jab and a Baytril jab, then I got given some for the week for her :) she huddled behind Megan when I put her back in the carrier (I took Megan to keep her company) as if to say 'don't blooming jab me again!' :)) bless her!

I took her in because she's begun to whine when she pees and it's worried me because of how Harvey ended up, so we've got her in now before it gets worse. I got her some watery treats earlier, some cucumber, a nice big pear, which obviously they'll all have some of but mostly to help Penny flush any infection through.

I also read on the Peter Gurney website that barley water is good to give pigs with urinary infections? My mum got me some pearl barley so I can make it up for her, but I wanted to double check that it is correct?

Anyway, rambling will end now :) but all in all, really good experience there, and they're not as pricey as the one I usually use, and a heck of a lot friendlier and thorough! Would definitely recommend! :)

I'm so pleased they were good, Allabouttheanimals recommended them :)

Yes you can give pearl barley, it coats the lining of the bladder I think, you know how to make it?

After giving her the liquid, you can give them all the cooked pearl barley bits that are left mine used to love them. Have they said what's wrong with her? Is it likely to be a stone or just a UTI? :)

If it's a UTI try to give her extra water via syringe, if you haven't syringe fed before, try to carefully syringe into the side of her mouth slowly allowing her to swallow each mouthful at a time.

I forgot who mentioned them before but I remember having a look at local vets and was one my mum had rang up once about Harvey. I'm glad I went there in the end.

It has instructions on the back of the packet so I'll have a good read tomorrow. I'm not a brilliant cook (omelettes are about my level!) so I could pop round the corner to ask my nan if she could help me first time, but I have plenty, plus it's quite cheap to buy, if I mess up I can start again. I'll let her have some of the pieces as well then, I just wanted to make sure it was all ok :)

The vet had a good feel around and said she could feel her 'pellets', she had a look at her genitals, though they weren't overly red or inflamed, she said it could be further up inside her body. So she's treated her for URI and suggested I add another bottle to the hutch so she gets a lot more water, although they have a giant rabbit one and they do drink a lot anyway, because there's 4 of them, obviously she may not be getting enough. I don't have any decent enough spare ones at the moment, only small mouse ones.

I've syringe-fed my pets for a good few years now so I'm used to dealing with that sort of stuff, but I may put it in a small mouse bottle so she can drink it herself. I could do that after she's had her anti-biotic each evening, and a little piece of cucumber.

I'm taking her back on Monday for a check-up so I'll keep monitoring her during the day, listening out for any change in whistles and whines :)

ahhhhhhh you said you were going to use the vet's visit up for Penny :)

Poor little girlie......sorry to hear it is a UTI :( they can be a devil to get rid of!
Yup PG does advise the pearl barley water, i know quite a few who've used it, i haven't tho.
Seen as she's on meds might be a good idea to give her some probiotics. It's great that she doesn't mind syringe feeding (so much easier if you can teach them isn't it) you could always give her some extra water that way too.
