Persuading Dad For Rats?

How can I persuade my dad to let me get some rats? I am asking this as there are 5 rats at my work that keep having babies and the pet store can't do anything with them so they will go for snake food or just chucked out (once killed) so I really want to save them. I am not saying the pet store is bad but they can't find homes for rats that no one wants so please help me try and persuade mainly my dad to let me get them.

Just done a load more research and found a video that has persuaded other people's parents to allow them to get rats but I will keep researching and researching!

Rats are absolutely lovely creatures, I did have a group of boys until recently but they died of old age. They are so clever and to me require the same amount of care and stimulation as a dog as well as a very large cage. Sadly I will not be having anymore as I can no longer give them several hours a day attention and they also have completely ruined the decor of the room they were in which as I own my home is no biggie but its a lot of effort to redecorate 6 monthly where they've peed through their cage onto the wall and its soaked into the plaster and leaves greasy marks that simply do not come off the little sods and wallpaper was a no go my boys had a taste for ripping it off the walls. Absolute monkeys and I can see why you might have difficulty persuading your dad they need so much care and attention, a wash load of their own hammocks a week as well as leaving a ratty smell in the whole house to those who have sensitive noses even when their cages are clean. That being said keep trying as he may give in once he realises just how adorable they are and how loving they can be, one day I do hope to have more rats :-) I just thought id let you have a rather to the point version of what pet rats can be like in my opinion amazing but absolute terrors simultaneously <3

I had rats eighteen years ago then had a gap cos hubby didn't like them Started keeping them again fifteen months ago and they are wonderful. Their cage did cost me a hundred quid as all metal and they do put sawdust everywhere. I had boys previously that chewed huge holes in my curtains. Now have four girls that to me smell worse than the boys. Have to clean them out every day and change out hammocks twice a week but they are so funny that it is worth it. Only downside is they are prone to cancer and respiratory infections.

Rats are amazing pets, they are so social and are as Bekki says- mini dogs. They do only live a few years, but those few years are amazing. I have had 19 in total over the years- they are just fab. They will need a large cage and lots of socialising- but i cant praise rats enough. I hope your dad says yes x

edited :They do need regular cleaning and do have a particular musk to them- but as long as spot cleaned daily and regular clean every 3 days they will be fine. They have a very sensitive nose- so best kept on paper based bedding such as megazorb or cardboard bedding.

Alot of rat owners use this product to help with neutralising any "musk" Nilodor Tap-A-Drop Odour Remover. (sold by the rat warehouse).

Sadly my dad keeps saying no and says I won't be allowed them at all ;(
