Bramble has been asking me about this and so I thought it might be worth highlighting for everyone the fact that there are pet couriers available to help with the transport of guinea pigs in the UK and beyond.

I enquired about getting 2 guinea pigs from Kent to the North East and was quoted £99.88, which although a lot of money is for door to door delivery. |i think it is a fair price.
I haven't used these people before, so can't personally reccommend them, but it's something I would consider in special circumstances.

Of course a rescue train, would always be better, but it's good to know that we have this option.

I have used this firm to get my Whinnie from Thistle Cavies in Scotland to me in Birmingham.

I fitted in with a scheduled trip so it was about £65 altogether to get her home to me. I can't recommend them highly enough - Whinnie arrived as fresh as a daisy even with the vast distance involved.

Thumbs up from me for sure.
 
thanks guys, do you know if they charge per pig or bythe mile? we have quite a few to transport due to an illness , 7 its good to let people know, i would never have thought of it (duh) & was racking my brains over this , then i saw babara's post ! ::)
 
Thats good for £65. If you worked out how much it would have cost via a piggy train it would have prob been that, bearing in mind those driving in the train have to pay petrol for both directions to & from. I think that fitting in with the scheduled journeys will work out to be the cheapest way - but if it were for alot of pigs the cost is kind of reduced per pig it would be worth doing a private journey.
 
It's good to know this is an option isn't it :)

I'll always try and help any genuine rescue re-homing transport request in my area, but for extra long journeys this might fill in those gaps that pose probs?

If you can fit in and meet them at services it comes down even more too, think I was quoted £50+vat from Scotland to Notts when I enquired. Didn't need them in the end though as I went myself and had a holiday in the bargain :)
