i asked my OH to pick up some hay and food this morning, well hes just rang me and told me hes picked it all up and when he was at the petshop the owner asked him how long he had had piggies, the owner said oh its just because they have become so popular since skinny pigs were in the newspaper and that he sells double to what he used to :o he gets 6-8 in on saturday and their all gone by wednesday-thursday! so my OH was looking at 4 which they had in one cage and was asking about them (even though we rehomed cookie yesterday and i told him no more) and they man said them three are boars and that one is a sow! so my OH asked how old they were and their 6 weeks! is this like wrong? ?

I think sows become fertil at this age and the boars become randy at 3-4 weeks yes i think this shop keeper needs to be educated

Yes probably another pregnant baby going to go to a new home :tickedoff:

Oh for Gods sake it's not rocket science is it! All these pet shop owners need to do is read a book on guineas! Poor pig, poor new owner!

Most admit though p@h had some gorgeous teddy's in today I was :smitten: but it goes against what I now believe in.

I didn't know pets at home had pure breeds in there shops?

thats what i thought but i wasnt there. you think i should ring up and tell him they should be seperated? if somebody comes in and picks two of them to take home what if who ever is looking after shop just assumes they will all be same sex and sells them together? he was boasting to my OH that hes selling them so quickly hes put the prices up :-\

Yep they do I got my Sheltie from pets at home (before I knew any better) I've seen Rex, teddys and mostly smooths in p@h in St Helens on Merseyside. I guess it depends on who their breeders are, I've not seen any Aby's lately.

I was quite impressed by my last visit to P@H. It was in Christchurch

They had big boards by the (separated) pigs and buns outlining what a responsibility it is and how guins like to be in pairs (girls)
It also talked about how long they live and that they should ideally be in a warm place for winter

report it then it may not happen again but if you dont then no one nos any difference and itll carry on :-\

Went in p@h yesterday and there was lots of pigs. They had about 7 boars and 2 adult sows, in seperate cages. The girls were lovely colours, but we wouldn't adopt from p@h. I don't think we have ever adopted from p@h. Only pets corner before we knew about rescues.

Omigod! Yet another poor pregnant juvenile piggy - probably going to an unsuspecting unknowledgable home! :tickedoff:
