Hi

I am a member of the Guinea Pig Daily Digest, an international online guinea pig forum. Each year they organise a candle lighting event on March 9th to remember Peter Gurney, a tireless advocate for guinea pigs but also to remember all of our guinea pig friends (whether human or animal) who have gone across the Rainbow bridge ahead of us. I wondered if anyone here would like to take part. I post below a copy of the post:

"You are invited to participate in our fifth annual "Light for Peter Gurney" candle lighting memorial on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010, at 8.00 pm.

This is a "real" event, as everyone is invited to light a real candle at or around 8.00 pm, in your respective time zone, in rememberance of our beloved friends, and all of the guinea pigs who are now with them, at the Rainbow Bridge. Peter Gurney was a tireless advocate for guinea pigs, who passed away from cancer July 1, 2006, in Great Britain. He wrote many of the books that we use, and he was probably the best guinea pig authority and advocate in the world.

March 9th was his birthday, and many of us who read the GPDD decided that it would be a fitting day to remember and honor him. We have now expanded this memorial to include and honor our dear friends who are with him at the Rainbow Bridge. Basically, all you need to do is light a candle on March 9th, in the evening, and the light will move around the world.

The memorial is also for all of the piggies who have passed away and are now with Peter Gurney. We know that he and our friends with him are looking after all of them.

This will be our fifth memorial candle-lighting, and at the end I will ask you where you lit your candle, and post a listing of all the places where the light went. So, mark your calendars for March 9th at 8.00 pm!"

If you are interested in taking part, I would be happy to compile a list of all of the locations in the UK where we are lighting candles and post it back so we can be included in the list showing where candles were lit around the world.

If I hadn't come across some of PG's unique advice, Dindy wouldn't be here today.
A candle will burn brightly for him in our house.

What a brilliant Idea.
I have the Collins Guinea Pig book by Peter Gurney which I think is the best piggy book ever. Been very helpfull, I'll be lighting a candle on the 9th March:)

a great man who is missed i will be lighting a candle for Peter xx

Glad to hear that there is interest. I think it is a brilliant way for us to all join together, werever we are across the world to remember our friends and beloved guinea pigs. Lets make the light in the UK shine out the brightest!

If you are a member of any other guinea pig communities then please spread the word.

I will try to keep this post bumped up so that everyone can join in.

i'd be interested- Is there anything going on in Bristol? x

Hi Mart

The idea is to light a candle in your own home but for all of us to do it at 8pm on the 9th March so we join together in spirit to remember our friends and guinea pigs over the bridge, as well as Peter Gurney.

Candle Lighting tomorrow at 8pm

Hi Guys

I am bumping this back up to remind everyone that its the 9th tomorrow for anyone who wants to light a candle and join in remembering our piggie friends who have gone ahead over the bridge.

We will be joining piggie friends and carers all around the world to remember Peter Gurney and any friends both furry or human who we have lost.

If you do light a candle, please post here afterwards to let me know your location. I will then gather these together and add them to the international list. When the list is completed I will post back here so you can see where around the world we joined together with to shine a bright light so our friends can see we have not forgotten them.

What a lovely tribute to a wonderful man. I will participate and will light a candle for my beloved Farquhar & Bob.

I am so grateful to Pete Gurney's advice, I have read every ailment under his A-Z online! We'll be lighting a candle here in London tomorrow, to remember all the pigs we loved and still miss terribly, and also as a thanks to all the people that have taken the time to educate me patiently in the art of good guinea pig parenting.

Here here, we will also be joining you tonight in Kent. I had the privilege of "talking" to Peter on line before his untimely death, such a dedicated and caring man who is greatly missed.

What a truely wonderful idea and gesture. His family must be so proud of his impact around the world!

I shall definately be lighting a candle at 8pm for Peter and others who are no longer with us here in Colchester Essex!

He helped me with beloved Milla Pigavitch, who had terrible skin conditions:

His books transformed the way in which I looked after my pigs - never forgotten in this household :)

Final reminder everyone, less than an hour to go if you are lighting your candles.

Let the light shine out at 8pm

A lit a candle in Birmingham at 8pm to remember friends who have gone ahead over the bridge. This year was particularly meaningful for me as I lost my beloved Hope in October and then her sister Faith at Christmas. Run free in the long grass my girls.

I hope those of you who wanted to join together to remember your friends also lit a candle.

If you want to post your location below I will start collating the list to add to the international list.

I lit a candle in my guinea pig room and was with my pigs at 8pm cleaning them out. I think Peter Gurney would have been very pleased. I am in Liverpool. What a wonderful way to remember this great man.

Final Call

I will be sending off our list of members who lit a candle tomorrow morning.

Can anyone who posted before the 9th to say they were going to light a candle please add a post to say if they did, so I know who to add to the international list please.

Once the international list is complete I will post a link back here so you can see who lit a candle around the world.

thanks
