My next door neighbour bought 3 guinea pigs from pets at home and one was pregnant and they never even told her. But she thinks its great fun...i don't know when they're due but i cant wait to see them my mums had a litter before and sed it was great fun and stuff so i want to help next door and look after them...I'm sooooo excited :(|)x)

P@H are such irresponsible idiots! mallethead:(

let just hope the poor little pregnant piggie is young enough to not have a fused pelvis already but old enough to be able to cope with such an ordeal on her little body :0

speaks volumes about the many benefits of rescuing a piggie rather than buying a pet shop one.

Tell your neighbour to contact pets at home as they will give her cages for free more than likely. I would contact head office. :)

i no they gave us all wrong info on our guineas and our bunny...they're shocking!:(
my bunny could of nearly been dead because he was to young to be neutured! x

pets at home lent me some cages for the piggies i got that were unwell (plastic being easier to clean effectively), they also paid all the vets fees and gave me an outside hutch when they were better. Best contacting them. I found their head office to be very helpful, and feel my local pets at homes are both great stores, very helpful, again it is down to the individual staff and manager. They really went out of their way to help.
Also, not always the stores fault, as the pigs come from a large breeders.
Hope both mammy and babies will be ok x

Your bunny being neutered is the vet's responsibility not Pets At Home! If he wasn't old enough to be neutered the vet should have known this straight away by the feel of bunny's testicles. It's nothing to do with Pets At Home!

i got my pigs from P@H and they had lice then i had to take them beacuse my little edie had an extra toe/ claw on her back foot! then i though my grace was a boy so i had to get her sexed....GRRRRRRRR!

OK, when you buy from any store the first thing you do is hold the piggy and check it's bits yourself! The store cannot refuse this!

completely agreed, but if you want to be sure of the sex go rescue instead liilroo xx

Or you could always go to a vets! We have been to rescues and a couple of times they actually got the sex wrong! Nobody is perfect I mean you could goto bankok and pick a girl who turned out to be a man! See what I mean! not that it's happened to me lolol

oops i just said this on the other thread.. :(|)

I think this thread should be locked.. only joking!

We will always have difference of opinion, and while i wish there wasnt a need for pet stores, they will always be around, and from my experience, these are one of the good lot!

Mine had illnesses that werent detected straight away, but as i said, they were dealt with to my satisfaction.. in fact i couldnt have asked for anything more! x

Er....I don't like where this thread is going! :(|)

Yeah it is down to us to get pets sexed, don't take it for granted that any animal is the right sex, you have to do it yourself. :)

thought pets at home have them seperated one in stafford girls are sept from boys . we were looking at some in there but wanted £19 each or 2 for £35 but got them from some one who themselves bought one which ended up being pregnant so we had two of hers she showed me how to sex them there she got a girl and boy and show diff . next time i will give a rescue piggie a home

I didnt know what to do when i held them.. yes i have grown up with pigs(I'm 17 now) but how would i have known that i had to check them before i bought?... no i cant tell the sexes even if i look at pictures because its all the same...

easy peasy, males will have folds of loose skin at the front of their rear ends! Girls generally just have a V shaped opening towards their rear! If you hold the piggy up and open their back legs you can usually see very easily unless the piggy is so young that it's hard to distinguish then at that age they should not be on sale! If you use your fore finger and thumb and stretch (gently) either side of their bits, will show if it's a male as it will pop out hehe ... A girls will remain the same..

i dont like messing in that area lol can tell mine are boys bigs nuts hanging lol:rose:rose

You cannot always tell with the smaller pups hehe, anyway moving swiftly away from the above matter hehe mallethead

We have 2 piggies from pets at home no problems with them had them 2 years now, were the right sex and healthy. When 8 of our piggies were babas we had to sex all 8 of them and at first it was relatively difficult so I checked and checked just to make sure, but as they get older it is much much easier and so obvious.

My latest baby piggy is from pets at home, having previsouly rescued two sows from local rescue centre.

I personally had no problems with pets at home. Sexed correctly and got healthy and happy piggy. Each store is different I think :) x
