Yesterday I found the most amazing soft and green timothy hay in a petshop I was in to buy nail clippers. I bought it -and the nail clippers but while I was discussing with myself whether fantastic hay was a good enough reason to sidestep my principle of not supporting petshops selling animals I heard one of the shop assistants selling a bunny -alone.

She mentioned all the regular stuff like hay (good one) dry food, waterbottle etc and then said, and a salt lick, of course. Yes, of course, said the mum buying the rabbit, trying to sound knowledgable. The shop assistant also recommended no hidey "until it's tame"

I debated with myself for a while, but didn't say anything and felt really bad about it after coming home... I hope next time I will speak up.

The hay was really amazing, by the way. Really really amazing.

Did you buy the hay? :))...

Petshops are awful I go in and want to buy all the animals... but once I move back to Glasgow we have a local petshop that doesn't sell animals, I just hope they sell piggy stuff :))!

I agree... except I have piped up sometimes but that's cause I think I know everything :))...

Hopefully, I'm hoping they will be happy to order piggy stuff :)!

I have to say when I was in (gets ready to duck) P@H to get cat food the lass there asked how Roger was and asked if I'd heard of Gorgeous Guineas and that they sell lovely shampoos etc for piggies, I was pleasantly surprised.

I have been known to speak up when earwigging and hearing incorrect information being bandied about, one of these days I'm sure my mouth will get me in trouble.

The way of petshops is so hard to change but even if you speak up just once it will make a difference;)
Hmm me on the other hand, we only have 6-7 petshops around this area so when i enter one they all know who i am and it doesnt help that everytime i do a routine check they strangely have the rspca inspecting them a week later{:|
I speak up about everything and I'm quite rude to them too lol, they hate me but i managed to get some things changed by reporting a million times to rspca at least its one small victory lol

I don't really have a reason to report that store except for the bad advice. They have huge cages for the animals, lots of hay, some hideys and keep piggies and rabbits separately... I just didn't think they would listen to what I said after the advice from the saleswoman. I just had the idea that I could direct people to an internet forum! That way they will soon learn to do right, remove saltlick, get friend etc. The problem is that I don't know about any rescue forums in Swedish. It's a lot of breeding and showing talk in all of them (even for mice!)

I will be braver next time!
