I have every sympathy for those of you who use fleece and wash by hand!

Our washing machine broke and won't be repaired until Monday, so for the past week I have had to wash the pigs fleeces, towels and cosies by hand. So far I've done two full cage sets for each of the four cages. The total cage size if all four were put together is 10x5, so for two sets...that totals about 20x10 C&C worth of bedding. No wonder I feel so weak! A few extra points:

1. It's gross! I don't care about the filthy water (as long as I keep wearing my Marigolds :))) but the smell of a-few-day-old pee-stained towels is not pleasant.
2. It weighs a ton! The small pieces of fleece and towels, and the cuddlecups, I can manage no problem. The 2x4 and 3x3 size fleeces are a challenge, as are the full bath sheets. I have got some thick bath towels to wash but I don't think I can manage them, they're so big and get so heavy I'll end up in the bath with them. :))
3. It takes forever to dry! No matter how much I wring them, they have to drip dry on the line. Then overnight on the radiators. I can only get so much on the line and the radiators. rolleyes

Having said all that, it's supremely satisfying when you put the towels and fleeces you laboured so much to get clean, actually in the cage. They don't look as clean and fresh as normal but they are really only surface clean and they don't stink, which will do until the machine is fixed.

I have been looking forward to a sit down and a catch up on the forum all day. 8:)

AWWW - you poor girl; you must feel like a little girl from a Christian Anderson fairytale...

I don't think that Monday can come quickly enough for you!

think i would have been tempted to put them on newspaper and hay for the week, but well done you and i remember having to wash our clothes in the bath when we went away on hols to a house in france we rented which had no electricity and using a mangle once a year was fun but you could feel it in your arms afterwards

Wow Laura hat off to you! I would have been down the laundrette personally. But bravo you!

YAY Monday tomorrow.

The only problem with putting them on newspaper and hay is that I've barely got any newspaper left, and it would take the full 22kg box of hay to fill the four cages. :))

oh no poor you theres nothing worse then when your washing machine breaks,I'm lucky my mum lives round the corner so she`d get lumbered with it all but i dont think she`d be impressed with piggie stuff, my family arent animal lovers

Its one of those things that you just take for granted that your washing machine will work. When it does break down its usually when youve let the washing pile up. You done well getting the fleeces washed. Not an easy job.

Yuk - it's bad enough coping with the smell as it goes into the washing machine, let alone washing by hand! Bleurgh!

Poor you, but well done on finishing it. My first would have been "help, where's the nearest launderette" ...

ive just got my washing machine back after going a few weeks without one, and ill tell you something - ive never been so grateful to have the luxery of my washing machine back again!

Good to hear you all appreciate your washing machines!

A launderette has crossed my mind, but because its got to be done so often it's not worth it unless the machine is going to be out of action for a long time. Can't wait for tomorrow when it can be fixed!

Even doing a couple of large loads of washing by hand a day, I'm still not caught up...I just get one cage set done and dried over a day or two, and then I'm pulling out the current set to be washed. It is never ending! :))

...and that of the 3 year old twins, and my dads Afghanistan kit... :))

My mum does the humans laundry in the kitchen sink, she's doing as little as she can get away with until the machine is fixed!

We did, thank you for remembering Louise!

Yesterday we had four loads of human washing in, and another two this morning. Through this afternoon I had to put 7 loads of piggie washing in...no wonder the poor thing broke in the first place! I only do fast washes for the pigs stuff though, otherwise that many loads would have taken a few days. :))

Now we are caught up we can go back to our usual 2 loads a day. For us, it was only logical to take out the extended warrnaty! rolleyes
