They came from a home where they were loved but their owner sadly didn’t have a clue how to care for them. A screaming toddler didn’t help.
I was their 3rd home. Phoebe was still a youngster, probably around 6 months.
She was terrified of everything and it took several months before she found her confidence.
Bonding with Jemimah and Merab was fun. Phoebe discovered a mother pig protector in Merab as the other 2 sorted themselves out and she was always going to be bottom of the herd.

She was a happy girl who learned to enjoy life as part of the group. She loved every pig.
She also hated being caught or held with a passion and proved to be a wriggler par excellence.
She did, however, like to be stroked in the cage.

Phoebe quickly became Micah’s favourite wife. He loved giving her eye licks as well as playing chase around the cage. Right up until the end Micah tried to make Phoebe’s eye better, nuzzling and licking her.
Phoebe also did cute very well.

Just before Christmas last year Phoebe became ill. The vet diagnosed either a retrobulbar abscess or a mass. Antibiotics helped the infection but gave her an upset tummy. In the end it was clearly a tumour so we decided to take her off everything except pain meds. Syringe feeding helped her but weight loss continued. Even Micah’s help didn’t add weight and the tumour in her eye grew visibly.
She enjoyed life, showed no signs of pain or discomfort and had a lovely day last Thursday, enjoying sharing grass and dandelion leaves with Micah and Priscilla

On Friday morning she didn’t emerge from her tunnel but grabbed a lettuce leaf and was heard munching away. An hour later I went to give her the morning meds she was out but clearly dying.
She passed away peacefully in my lap less than an hour later.
The White Stripey Nose Club has lost a member and I have a Phoebe shaped hole in my heart.
My beautiful, feisty lovely girl will be sorely missed.
But …….it’s the Easter season and I believe in resurrection
