I feed my guys all the usual foods, but was wondering if I'm feeding them enough or too little! I've been doing some research but '1 cup' per day isn't very clear to me....

Does anyone have any pictures of their guinea pigs daily food bowl? Just to give me an idea :)

At the min I usually give half a pepper, a baby carrot, 1/2 inch cucumber, to sprigs of herb (basil, mint, corriander etc) and then either some celery, parsnip, cabbage, spinach, broccoli on top. Sometimes I'll add in some water melon or apple but only once per week as a treat.

I'm not sure i have one but i could take one especially if your really concerned? How many piggies do you have? (I have 2) The rule is 1 cup each day per piggy. I found this hard too! So i went out and bought some cup measures, they are fairly easily acessable. (my mom made us get fancy metal ones to match the kitchen) but you can get cheap ones. Just a suggestion! :) Let me know if you would like the photo?

AAAHH I'm SO STUPID! I thought a cup measurement was a normal drinking cup, and I was like "they are all different sizes" looking through my cupboard!

Right so I can buy an actual cup measurement thing mallethead:))

I have two 6 month old boys, they eat all their food so quickly so i worry its not enough....then they have fat little tummies so then I think it's too much!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me :) And thanks for offering to take a picture, thats really nice of you. But I will get on and buy some cup measurement thingys instead! x

Yes you can buy a measuring 'cup' - often with the baking things in the supermarket:)
Does sound like you giving them a bit too much:)) I would not give them a carrot a day - carrots contain too much vitamin A and sugars for piggies so should just be a once a week treat. Leafy carrot tops are good for them tho.

I tend to feed mine (between them) about 2 inches of cucumber, chopped into smaller pieces. Half a celery stalk, 1 thick slice of bell pepper, 2 leavs of a letuce (never iceberg) or some spring greens then one or two of the following (corriander, parlsey, carrot, carrot tops, pack choi, water cress)

Thanks guys, will def get down to the supermarket and pick up a measuring thing :)

I did think I was giving them a bit much, but the eat it all so quickly! Greedy little piggers :)

Good point about the carrot, I will cut back on those. And I'll maybe try out your 'menu' Connie and see how it goes down.

My OH just asked if we could give them Bacon Frazzle crisps....them NO!! mallethead

Thanks again guys x

If you're concerned that they're not getting enough, as long as they have an unlimited supply of good quality hay, they won't go hungry ;)

Some of the veggies you mentioned, as others have said with carrots, shouldn't be fed daily.

There's some info here about foods http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42 but obviously any questions, just ask - someone around here will know the answer!

I feed mine 1 large handful of dried food (per 2 pigs) in the morning. A heaped handful of whatever fruit and veg I have that day in the evening (per 2 pigs). Also unlimited hay. I think if you give them much more than that they would get huge, I wouldn't say I give mine very much but believe me there fat lol. Most books recommend unlimited dried food and hay.
