My approx 8 month old sow pig I thought had damaged her leg so I took her to the vets and he said there were no breaks but possibly might have a strain so injected pain killers and that was that. I think she is slightly limping along. Sometimes she gives off a high squeak sounding like she's in pain so I gently picked her up and sat her on my lap and her hearts beating fast and if I go to pick her up she gives out the same sound. She seems happy most the time and eats well. What could it be?

Did the vet not give you any pain relief to bring home? It sounds like she is still in pain and will need a course of oral anti-inflammatories such as Metacam but you would need to get it from the vets. Water therapy can be helpful too. I can give more info on that later if needed once I am not on my phone.

Thanks. The vet gave an injection and said it would last a week. I had no medication other than that.

Ok. I have not heard of an injection lasting that long but it may be that I have never been told about it. I would speak to your vet and explain she is still in pain.

I also have not heard of pain relief injections that last a week. As said above the usual pain relief given to piggies is metacam which is a nonsteroidal anti inflamatory. This can be given as an injection which may last up to 24 hours and then it is usual to follow up with oral metacam once or twice a day for several days. The only other types injectable pain reliefs i am aware of are stronger but last less time.
