Hi all.

Would someone be able to let me know the name and location of the vet that does detailed poop tests? I can't for the life of me remember.

I'm going to book Jon into see Simon or Kim soon about his digestive issues. I'm not sure how detailed a test they can do so I want to take the other vets details with me.

He's always had odd shaped poops and a rumbling stomach but we've (the vet and I) haven't done anything about it.

Since swapping the two pigs onto grainless pellets they've both lost a bit of weight and I'm now starting to get my worry head on as Jon is only 1kg (or thereabouts). My boars have always been bigger!

Jon's still fine, eating and generally healthy but that weight... I don't like it...

I would expect a bit of weight loss when switching to grain-free pellets, as you cut out a lot of the fattening/starchy filler products that are in traditional pellets. You can compensate by feeding more.

Yep, Podrick lost weight too, so it's definitely food related. Plus, I've cut down on the amount of veg they have to see if that helps Jon.

And, he has diarrhoea a little while ago and never regained the weight he lost. But it all adds up when you're only 1kg

I've had a Google and found somewhere in Chester. It's not at the zoo though, but does tests for them.

I rang them on my lunch break and they said they can do the tests. The quickest way is for them to send the sample collection pots to me, and then I send it back to them with payment. They'll then let me and my vet know the results, and offer advice on treatment options.

So, I'm going to give it a whirl. The worst case scenario is I don't get any good results from it, but it's worth a try. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Can you pm me the details and rough cost? I found a few soft and wet looking poops again last night but can't work out who it was from, if it's from daisy again I was considering getting the vet's to test her poop but could bypass this for more thorough testing

I would be interested to know too, I have a few with soft poos though they are those who have been on Zithromax, but just in case it is anything else it would be handy to know.

Yes it was me ! (Thanks Helen) @Jaycey It's Mary at Chester Zoo in the lab there, if you need her number I can pm it to you. Most vet's labs will do a fecal float but it's not always enough. Mary does a detailed in depth analysis for parasites, fungal etc for about £70. Let me know if you want her contact info x

Found it & sent you a pm ;) Yes I could have bought a new car from what I spent on my pigs in the last 6 years :( x

Thank you!

I know the feeling. I felt like asking my vet to see if I could move in at one point, save me driving back and forth.

Or booking myself and my pig into TEAS for boarding for a while!
