Hi, my g-pig that was just rescued from a snake hoarder six days ago. I have had him for three. He will not touch his hay. I do not think he knows how to eat it. I can not get him a friend yet, he is waiting a visit to the vet. Is there any ideas about getting a g-pig interested in his hay?

Thank you... Oh yeah, he is an adult male... I would say between 1-3 years old. :)

That is very strange for a piggy not to eat that. Its one of the best things they can have. The hay is definitely suitable? Have you tried putting it into a rack as he might not like walking on it?

You may have a fussy pig on your hands..my girls will eat certain types of hay, and will turn their noses up at others!

have you tried timothy hay? mine have never turned that down it can be costly, bunny basics do a nice one but its around £6 for a small bag of it.

Try putting it EVERYWHERE hay racks, piles on the floor, carboard tubes/boxes also try different types of hay or maybe mixing some dried herbs into the hay, or even hiding pellets and veggies in the hay its worth a try O0

I agree with what has been posted already - some pigs are a bit lazy and won't reach up for it in a rack, and also you could try some different hays. :) Mine have hay in their rack, but still leap about like loonies if I put a big clump on the ground for them! ;D

Guinea pigs naturally eat off the floor, hay racks are unnatural. Try stuffing kitchen rolls with hay, or bending fiddlestix to make a manger and fill with hay- mine love this option! I have a rabbit that eats hardly any hay and its very frustrating. He's had everything from Oxbow, Proper Food 4 Pets, Bunny Basics, Local meadow hay etc etc but won't touch it. He eats the most if its in his litter tray or a cardboard tube but nothing like the amount he should!

It's the same with my rabbits - they rarely eat from a hay rack, but will eat it when it's right in front of them at their level.
