hi all,
so yesterday one of my boys decided not to eat his veg in the morning and seemed sluggish and wanted to hide and be left alone,i took him to the vets she checked him over and said he was a bit bloated but couldnt find any blockages etc and she listened to his chest etc to see if he had any respiratory noise and he didnt she gave me some critical care to syringe him over the day, when evening came he was still off his food so i carried on the critical care. this morning he seemed fine and was eating his veg and chewing on his hay, i went back from work at around 11am and tried him with some lettuce which he ate straight away and he seemed normal. i have just been back to check him again at 2pm and he was hiding and not interested in food.

any ideas ?

Something is clearly going on that is not right. Loss of appetite can have many reasons, some more obvious than others. Please keep an eye on him and weigh him daily for the time being. Eating can be very deceptive!

Continue with topping him up with recovery food or mushed up pellets several times a day. Your boy needs to eat the equivalent of at least 120ml in solids or liquid food in 24 hours. Please also offer him water regularly to mae sure that he is not dehydrating.

hi thanks for your reply,I'm going to take him back to the vets today. i have been syringe feeding him water but as not at home i cant watch to see if hes drinking on his own.
she mentioned some meds that help him clear his gut and get it all moving ?

How are his poops ? A gut stimulant maybe helpful as your Vet says.
Bloat is very uncomfy so he'll not feel like eating. Hopefully, some stimulants will do the trick and he'll get his appetite back.
Paws crossed here x

What Veggies are you giving him? One of ours becomes very bloated after kale or broccoli so we have cut it out altogether.

If that is what it is wefound that massaging his belly, putting a vibrating pad under him and even a car journey can help clear it.

Is he pooping?

hi all, it seems that he is fine now, he went back to the vets and she has given him emeprid and something else i cant think of ,its a oral suspension of some sort, and metacam for any pain etc, anyway by the time i got him home he seemed totally normal and took the meds and veg straight away,so I'm kinda thinking it was bloat and the car journey relieved him haha ! anyway I'm going to continue the meds for 5 days(even though i dont think that started him eating again) as instructed and then see how he goes . naughty little so and so had me worried x

ps if you could see me you would laugh, a 6ft bloke covered in tattoos cuddling a little guinea pig in the vets haha !
