Within the past few weeks I noticed a major change in one of my Piggies Lucy she wouldn't eat or drink anything and she laid around all day, not her normal excited self. I began to worry so two days ago we took her to the vet. They told us she had pneumonia and that it didn't look good. One of her lungs was filled with fluid. They prescribed her two medicines to be given twice a day daily. I made sure she got her medicine and I syringe fed her fresh water with it. Today however I'm sad to say that she passed away after I came home from school. I'm having a very hard time with the situation but read some other stories on here that made me feel better. My heart goes out to all Guinea owner that have felt this same loss with there best friends.

I do have another female piggie who lived in the same cage as Lucy her name is Sophie. I think we should go get her checked out by her vet just to make sure she doesn't also have this disease. Any thoughts and advice would help out majorly and any preventive measures would definitely be appreciated! Thank you!

Hugs to you. It's so hard to lose one of our little friends, I did this week too. But it's unfortunately part of loving them, we have to say goodbye.

If I'm ever sure, or whenever I get a new piggy I always like to take them to the vet for a general checkup or MOT as I call it. It does them no harm and if there was anything wrong then the vet should pick it up. Also, it can start them getting used to going to the vet.

Try not to worry, it's very unlikely that Sophie has it too, she would be showing signs of illness, but it's always worth a vet check, even if it's just for your peace of mind.

Sorry for your loss *hugs*

I'm so sorry for your loss. Pneumonia can strike suddenly and it can be very difficult to cure. Hugs x

For your own peace of mind and reassurance, if nothing else, it is worth getting Sophie checked out by the vet to make sure she is not unwell.

I'm so sorry, Pneumonia can strike so quickly. I agree with getting Sophie checked just in case.

Thank you everyone! Encouraging post like these really help you get through the loss of one of these great animals! I think taking Sophie to get checked out is the right decision to make sure she is all in good health, I know she misses her sister just as much as me.
