What would the most common causes of a piggie not eating?

He is about 2 yrs 8 months old

Really worried about him, vet appointment booked for this evening.

Any pig that is not eating is a great concern and needs urgent vet treatment. They can become dehydrated and their gut stops working very quickly.

I can't comment on the cause but infection or other illness impacts on appetite and dental issues are the most common cause.

Get them to a good vet quickly and make sure they get things happening for you.

Thank you MerryPip off to the vets at 5.

He won't even eat fresh grass which is most unusual for him.

Not eating/anorexia can have many reasons, it is often the first sign that something is not right. Good that you have already got a vet appointment! Sometimes it can be very difficult to determine the cause when there are no other indicators around. Please weigh daily instead of just weekly as with a healthy guinea pig, so you can control the actual food intake.

Not eating is due to lots of things the main general reason is pain. But obviously you need to find the reason for this discomfort, which usually include the most likely things being: dental problems, bladder stones/UTI's, URI's, bloat etc etc.

Let us all know how you get on.

x.

We took him to the vets, he was given a thorough check up and a pain relief injection. We were told to take him back today if there was no change.

Sadly on the journey to the vets he went down hill and was put to sleep.

So sorry to hear this, it can be so hard to get them back on track once they stop eating. Sleep well little one. x

Thank you.

One of the remaining piggies is really missing him, going around the cage sniffing everywhere trying to find him.

That is very sad. What a beautiful pig and such a wonderful name for him. Sorry for your loss.

I am ever so sorry! I just lost Marshmallow's lookalike Bethan yesterday after a short illness, despite my own best round-the-clock care and hand feeding efforts. :(

You have done everything you could for him. Sometimes, it is sadly just not to be.
