-sigh- So I got my piggy (which I have named piggy just cause it was cute and stuck lol, I know I'm so creative:))) I think 2 weeks ago now and she has double and then some in the time since I got her haha.

But my cat... My darn cat will not leave her alone. I have run out of ideas of how to discourage her from bugging piggy. I tried yelling at her and spraying with her with water but she still is always bugging my piggy whenever she comes out of her house =(. Does anyone have any other ideas of how I can make my cat leave her alone? I've put my cage between my dressers so she only has 1 end she can bug her on.

Its not like she wants to kill piggy she is just thinks its a fun game to make her run.

I have 2 cats and its only the younger one that does this. My other one could care less about my piggy.

She will grow out of it
My cat's pebbles, mistleto and peanut got in the cage with the boys and it scared the life out of me.
Mistleto was eating their food, pebbles and peanut were snuggled with the boys!!
Benson and zak (the kittens) love to try and get the piggies through the bars so now their not allowed in my room.
Jasmine and pebbles sleep in my roomand dont bother with the piggies any more.
Have you thought about shutting your cat out of the room their in?

My piggies in my room with me so I don't really wanna kick my cats out, and if I move her to a different room I'm afriad I will lapse on her care.

She will get bored and not bother soon, it is because Piggy is new. My cats used to do it and now they dont pay any attention at all :)

Well unfortunantly cats being interested in piggies is a fact of life as its there natural instinct, piggy would probably be very scared when the cat is near so its a wise idea to keep the cat well away, the best thing would be to keep the cats out of your bedroom for piggies safety and wellbeing,if you would lapse in care because piggy wasnt in the bedroom then maybe a guinea pig wasnt the best choice.
Not trying to be harsh but to do the right thing by piggy the cats need to have no access to the room and i dont think it will bother them that much.
and make no mistake the reason why your cat enjoys seeing piggy run is that piggy is prey so if given the opportunity she would almost certainly kill or rough play with her.

my neighbours all have cats and they all pop round for a sniff
usually during the night and leave little gifts on my lawn

lucky for them - i am asleep

My two cats dont bother my guinea pigs at all, my dogs have a sniff but thats about it because my guinea pigs come right up to them and chase them off if they are not wanted lol Never really had any problems so apart from telling them off I wouldn't know how you could prevent it.

I have 3 cats and one of them used to pester the guineas (still does from time to time). Every single guinea of mine has realised that inside their cage they are safe and don't even worry about the cat any more.

Your cat will give up in the end as it will get boring.

My dog was worse than the cats at the start and even now she doesn't bother them any more.

Could you drape something over the side the cat could reach for now to hide piggy? Maybe do that for half the time and keep the cat out for half the time? It's a compromise while everyone gets used to each other.

I had this problem when we got our Chinchilla, the dog thought he was highly interesting and being a terrier type, he went mental trying to get at him.

Luckily our Chinchy found the dog completely hilarious and wasnt bothered by him and occasionally let him know to back off, but eventually Diesel gave up and realised that he wasnt going to get to "play" with him so didn't bother anymore.

Hopefully once you've had Piggy for a while the cat will realise this too and won't bother with her and Piggy will realise that she is safe in her cage so in the meantime just try to discourage the cat from getting over excited around her :)

I agree with Bonnie that you should also keep the cat out of the bedroom in the meantime, its not fair on Piggy if she is getting stressed thinking she's about to get eaten!

Mine try it on with Peanut, who being only 5 months old popcorns around, but not with Bissie - being older and wiser she goes nose to nose with them through the wire and will stay there staring at whichever of our 4 cats feels like trying its luck today until the cat gives up and wanders away with a yawn as if to say "I'm bored with this" rather than admit it got stared down by a snack!

Mind you mine only have 1 wire facing on their outside run - if they go to the back, or through the pophole into their houseing section of the outbuilding the cats cant get anywhere near - wouldnt trust them with them out in the open i have to say!
