Hi all, I’m new here and hoping someone can offer advice. My piggies are indoors at the moment while it’s so cold out and at night I cover half their cage with an old picnic blanket. Anyway, overnight they’ve managed to reach the blanket, pull some of it through the bars and chew it. It’s a picnic blanket with the black backing on it and that it the bit they’ve chewed. I think they must have ingested it because I can’t find any bits anywhere. Will they just pass it? I’ve had to come to work and I’m worried sick.

Is it only a small amount they have eaten? Or have they eaten quite a bit of it?

There’s quite a bit missing but it’s only a thin material. I wish I’d taken a picture. To look at, it’s about the same size as the piggie. But as I said it’s a thin material

I would be inclined to say that you just need to keep a close eye on them. Any changes in behaviour or loss of appetite etc then will require the vets.
I have had pigs eat all sorts before and they have never come to any harm. 3 of them once ate half a puppy pad overnight and they were fine.

Thank you. They have eaten things before and been ok but not like this 🙈. They’re only a year old. They nibble on everything!

Hi!

Guinea pigs don't hav a vomit reflex but they have got a good digestive system. If its just a little, then there should not be a problem.

Keep an eye on them for the next 24 hours and see a vet if and as soon as your piggy is suddenly looking ill and off its food.

I’m keeping everything crossed. Our bunny passed away 2 weeks ago, my son would be devastated if anything happened to Tom and Jerry xx

Keep an eye on them to make sure they are pooping normally. If it's any consolation, my kids once left the hay bag too close to the bars and one of the pigs ate a significant amount of plastic with no ill effects!

I have had piggies eating a considerable amount of plastic or ribbon before I got to them without any bad effects. But of course you are always a lot more jittery after a loss. I am very sorry about that! HUGS!

Half Puppy Pad. :hb::yahoo:Naughty piggies

Can’t advise on your problem but just wanted to say I absolutely love their names!

My first guinea pig Boris (back in 1984!) used to live in the kitchen and pulled 2 tea towels into his cage and ate them. And my first rabbit Bugs Bunny (back in 1981!) ate a whole woven grass and denim hippy sandal with a cork sole :)
Hope your piggies are fine!

My last piggie was called Boris! And his pal was Barry. Sadly these old fellas are no longer with us but they were definitely not as troublesome as Tom and Jerry!

My sow dot ate a sequin off of my wifes jumper and nothing happened. What a though!. She was a pup then though, so it was just a curiosity thing.
