Hi - My piggies are moving inside in a week or so and I have been looking for "living quarters" ideas. I have noticed that many people put a litter tray in their piggies homes full of hay. This may sound strange but is this for them to eat or to mess in ?

I have a feeling that if i was to do that, they would mess in it and then I would worry that they were eating hay that had been messed and wetted !

Any help would be gratefully received. x

I'd like to know too please.

I got a triangular toilet with the cage I bought but they weren't really using it, I didn't think. I always put it in the same corner of the run and now that Mabelle is in the run all day for the time being (as she is a he) I put a snuggle hood thing in that corner. I was collecting their fleece blankets and houses and have seen that most of the poops are in the snuggle hood! It was also very wet. So Mabelle kinda gets the idea, although I don't want her weeing in the hood!

Mostly people put the litter tray under the hay rack, as piggies tend to poop where they eat! So it catches most of the mess and can be cleaned frequently.

Some people say their piggies are 'litter trained' in this sense, but they are not like rabbits in that they can't be properly litter trained, generally - as they don't know when they're pooping / weeing, they just do it all the time!

I have a nero 4 and my two girls only wee at one end of the cage, never ever at the end where they sleep. I am very impressed with this as my previous guineas just used to wee and poo everywhere! These two girls poo everywhere but never wet their beds!
