I have a small, awkwardly shaped lawn, not helped by still having to wait for the last crocuses to die down, so I'm building upwards to provide more space without sacrificing one bit of muncheable grass!

Thankfully, years of having piggies and a wood working hubby have left me with quite a few odds and ends to play around with!

Hopefully this gives you ideas on what you can do with your own hay trays and stuff etc...

First, I'm placing two huts of the same height in the run (the upturned flower pots are for my crocuses - not good for piggies to eat):

Then I'm putting a hay tray on top of them which leaves two exits:

My hutch hut goes on next, together with a ramp:

For the top, I use damp beach towels to make sure that the run is shaded during the heat of the day and kept as cool as possible:

And that is my piggy summer palace!

thats really great i have my 2 groups in my shed in these type of runs and wanted to add a second level to there runs this is a great way of doing it x

Thanks, I find that I can easily switch around a construction like that, or adapt it to circumstances.

My wooden houses do live in the C&C cage, anyway, and the big hut and the usually bath mat covered tray do serve as home from home for the roamers.

Oooo space is very limited, so I'm afraid they just get to munch grass, they only get an hour each one a week but they've had 3 hours this week!

Love the idea Wiebke!

That is brilliant - and I presume on a very hot day you could keep spraying the towels so they don't dry out. It really is a great idea.
