Well, since Piglet had his teeth done we are slowly making an improvement - I haven't hand fed him for 4 days as I think this was filling him up too much and he wasn't hungry enough to try for himself. He's been on a twice a day dose of metacam but he was getting so uptight with all the getting in and out of the hutch (he's not so keen on being handled) that I decided that if he was going to try and eat for himself I'd see how he got on without the metacam too.

The week before he had his teeth done I thought he was constipated and we emptied some poo out. I'd started to think I was over feeding him as have had to do it more since.

Anyway my questions are:

Does the metacam make them a little constipated?

He's still producing lots of poo - does this mean he is eating plenty by himself? He hasn't gained any weight but he's not lost anything either.

I've been reading up on anal impactions, which I'm thinking he probably has, and how to deal with them.... this leads me to my next, more bizarre question.

If he's not neutered should he have really obvious testicles? Several of the things I've read say about separating the testicles to see the bottom - Piglet has nothing! I'm wondering if he is neutered already after all.

Thank you! xx

I'm sorry, but I'm confused. If he is pooping regularly, and not losing weight why are you concerned about constipation? Have you seen him eat on his own? Guinealynx has a good guide on not only anatomy but also impaction. Without seeing a picture it would be hard to comment on neuter status; but I know my boys have very obvious manly parts! :)) check these links:

He's making the poo but not really passing it on his own. I'm hoping that its just his system settling down - I cleared some of the soft poo yesterday which I offered him and he stuffed it down. We have seen him take the veggies but he's only eating half of it really and that's a 1/4 of what he was eating before but I guess he wont be needing quite so much at the moment and as long as its going in and sort of coming out I'm fairly happy.

The impaction one is pretty spot on for how he looks - I am wondering if it was of a "lacking" problem - he's not nearly as full in the bottom department this evening after his snack yesterday (:vom:) and he's eaten more of it tonight and tried to eat my finger too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be a little more sorted tomorrow.
