Hi,

I am hoping to bring my girls inside this week, I have everything sorted but I was just wondering how you would arrange the bedding I have -

One square of Vetbed - My girls are shy, and it's their first time inside so I bought a square bit of Vetbed to place in their hidey holes as I know they'll spend most of their time in their for a week or so!
Inco pads
Fleece
Towels

I know I don't have to use all of these but I was thinking -
towels, then inco pads, then the Vetbed, then fleece on top of it all?

Is that the right way to do it? It's the first time for me having GP's inside!

Thanks,

Alex

I think that one layer of either inco pads or towels or vetbed would be enough for underneath your fleece!

Most of us do change indoors fleece about 2-3 days. Just use as much as you can get comfortably in your washing machine/dryer, but have a change ready.

Fleece needs to be washed without softener (best wash at least twice before use in order to get the softener out, or it won't wick the pee away).

Thank you!

Inco pads and fleece it is then! :)

I have washed the fleece so hopefully it'll be ok.

Do you know if it's ok just to bring them in one evening? We don't have the heating on yet. I just don't want to shock them.

Thanks, i have just heard about the transition from outside to inside making the pigs ill.

Thanks again

As long as you do it on a day when the temperatures inside and out are not too different, it's perfectly fine. However, if you bring piggies in from freezing conditions into a fully heated room, that will spell trouble indeed! Guinea pigs do not adjust well to big changes in temperatures.

The same goes in spring - make sure that you "harden off" you guinea pigs before you put them out permanently.
