Hi all

I've been reading through some of the pinned posts in an attempt to swat up on guinea pig care and I've just learnt that dog wee is dangerous to guinea pigs.

How do those of you with dogs safeguard your piggies when it comes to grass time? And how long after a dog has wee'd does the grass become safe again?

So much to learn...!

Hello and welcome to the forum! I have two terriers and i have made sure that the area the pigs 'graze' on isn't touched by the dogs. I don't move my pens around as my pigs don't spend a huge amount of time outside and their pens are so large on the lawn that they never manage to graze it down. The only thing I have to do is lift them to run the law mower over every so often them the grass is becoming too long for them. It is essential to keep them away from areas that the dogs have urinated on. Perhaps you could section off a specific area for your pigs?

Yes I'm afraid fresh dog tiddle is poisonous. During run time try to fence off the area you want to keep fresh for the pigs, as best as you can :)

I'm fortunate as my dogs don't mess in the garden and haven't done since been puppies although it's not that often they are out there anyway x
