My two girls have been eating Tesco Guinea pig pellets since I got them in April and they've always loved them. But in the last week they haven't been eating all of it, I've kept the portion sizes the same as recommended on the packet but about half of the food has been left.

They're still eating veg and hay without problems. The breeder I got them from told me if they got bored I should add a handful of oats for a couple of weeks so they'd think it was new and interesting, but they didn't eat the oats at all!

Any suggestions? Do I just try a new brand of nuggets?

This happened to my boys with harringtons nuggets and also burgess nuggets. I think they changed the recipe of the burgess and the harringtons changed shape and became smaller. I just changed to a different brand. I know you shouldn't keep changing their nuggets but I feed them either burgess, harringtons, science select, and pets at home nuggets. I don't want them to become bored. Each type of nuggets I introduced slowly so I know they are not going to get upset stomachs.

:agr: with @Julie M
I actually feed mine 3 different types of nugget in rotation.
I didn't actually know you weren't supposed to feed more than 1 type?
I did this after my lot stopped eating their first type, and then once I found an alternative that they did love it was discontinued

Ah ok, I have a couple of weeks worth of tesco pellets left in the bag that's open, annoyingly I bought a new bag just before they stopped eating it! But I can save that for the rotation perhaps. Will get some science select and phase it in.

Thanks guys :)

I often mix 2 different types of the same complete food pellet together to give the piggies a bit of variety in their bowl. At present they have Burgess mint and Burgess Blackcurrant and Oregano pellets mixed.

These piggies have us all well trained.:own: Do u think they go to piggie school to learn how to train your human. Lol.

Thanks @VickiA I'm considering doing that with mine due to Badger (Big's new friend) having Burgess mint and mine having Science Selective. Glad it's ok to use two, was worrying I might give them a ticky tum.

Mine are loving harvest feast at the minute. There is actually a thread pretty active at the minute about it if you pop over and have a nosy! They get so excited about it I can hand feed them one pellet at at time and they will happily take it out of my hand....even my most timid piggies! X
