Hi there all...well I am posting on here more and more these days for advice etc... plus its friendlier than some of the others I go on for other animals!

Well I have got a new piggy which has joined my 3... thought I would come on here for some name ideas but at the moment she is called Snickers... but today i am posting about CoCo.

She is a pink eyed piggy - I personally am not a fan of pink eyes but she is my daughters pig and she loves her! But what I have noticed is over the past few days with all the sun, she is seemingly closing her eyes a lot more.

She is definitely a piggy that sleeps with her eyes shut in fact I was going to photo it but then the girls ran out to see & she woke up! But she sits with them not as open as the other piggies.

Is it because of the bright weather we are having at the moment perhaps? She is otherwise eating / acting fine. She has no discharge or obtrusions or obstructions....

Any ideas? Is this a pink eyed piggy thing?

hi i have pink eyed piggies and dark eyed they do say pink eyed pigs find bright light more harsh but to be honest my boys with pink eyes dont seem to be any different than any other day so not sure sorry i cant be more help ;)

I had a pink eyed white (PEW) piggy who definitely was more light sensitive. Someone did say they are more likely to lose their vision when they get older, but mine was fine, piggies' eyesight isn't great anyway, they rely on smell & hearing. :)

I have been googling it this afternoon and have found out that they are more light sensitive because they are missing some pigment.... I didnt think she was ill as she is acting like a normal pig - eating, eating, eating, occasional popcorning etc! It is just she sits there with her eyes completely shut or partially closed. But then it is a bright day! Maybe I should get some piggy shades!

If she is out in a run make sure she has sufficient shade to escape the sunshine, better still put the run in a shady spot if possible. I suffer from light sensitivity myself ( I have something called a tasselated fundus in my eyes lol) so know how horrible it is in bright sunlight, & yes I do have to wear sunglasses even in the winter if it's sunny! rolleyes

Ahh, i like the pink eyes. All of the pink eyed piggies i have tend to squint a bit more than the others. I'm guessing like people have said that they may be more sensitive to light. So long as there is not discharge, redness or swelling around/in the eyes and your piggie is well i wouldnt worry.

x.
