Hiya,

Just a quickie... are pink eyed piggies more sensitive to sunlight than dark eyed pigs? Just noticed my pink eyed pig squinted a lot when outdoors whereas my dark eyed pig did not.

(They had shady areas and cover too)

Thanks

I think they are more sensitive to bright light/sunshine than dark eyed piggies, but they can see just as well as normal eyed piggies :)

They are more sensitive to bright sunlight, but it is a normal eye colour and there is nothing wrong with the eyes.

Thanks both!
Think I'll just make sure there's enough shady spots for him when outnin the garden... he's clearly not keen on he sunlight! :)

I put an old single duvet on the top of the gp run to keep the sun off and also it makes the piggies feel safer. They have a pigloo and other hideys in the run as well of course. Maybe you can cover your run? Or do you have free range piggies? Piggie run.webp

Red-eyed Sundae always squinted in the sunlight too. I suspect they might be more light-sensitive. They spent limited time outside (I'm in Canada so the outdoor season for guinea pigs is only a few months) and I just made sure they had shade so they didn't overheat.

Lighter coloured eyes in both guinea pigs and humans contain less melanin which is the pigment in your eye (pigment gives you the colour of your eyes) and therefore are more sensitive to sun

Edit: sorry I thought this was posted a couple of days ago :/
