Now that christmas is over, I'm starting to plan for my ambition to build my 8 guinea pigs a lovely, big outdoor play area where they will spend their whole days in the better weather.

It will be enclosed with picket fence and the flooring will be a mixture of grass and bark, with lots of wooden hideys, tunnels and toys. I want to plant some small trees, bushes or shrubs for them to have some shade and also something to nibble on, but I don't know what is or isn't safe for them.

Could someone please give suggestions/ideas on what I can plant for them?

They do tend to nibble a lot! I had a raised bed area last year that hubby enclosed with mesh and posts to stop the rabbit eating everything! In it we grew lots of herbs plus spinach and celery! Very tasty if they wanted a nibble but safe too. The plants were allowed to grow bushy ( until needed for piggies to eat) and I'd pop some piggies in there so that t hey could run about. It was so funny watching the plants moving as the pigs dashed about! I also have a large save bush in the garden that they can hide under.
