my brand new piggie pebble in 8 weeks old and ive only had her a few days she seems completley happy i guess shes not eating a great amount but i think thats because shes settling in she seems fine but she just sneezed a little bit of "snot" came out her nose will she be fine if i just keep an eye on her i know i should seperate her from my two other piggies but i dont have another cage :(

What colour was the snot? - Guinea Pig's should not have Snot coming from there nose. Could be a URI she will need a vet visit and possibly ABS.

Did she come from Pets at Home?

NOSE

NORMAL:
Nose should be clean.

NOT NORMAL:
Snotty noses and frequent sneezing can be a sign of a bacterial infection.
Fungal infections often start on the face.
Cheilitis is an inflammation of the lips that sometimes spreads toward the nose.

:( arghhh for gods sake yes she is from pets at home :@ it was a very light colour hardly notisible it was a very small amount and she never sneezes i thought maybe she could have got something up her nose which irritated it and made the sticky "snot" to get it out? i only thought this because shes not been sneezing at all and seems fine

Flintstones is absolutely right - discharge from the nose is not normal and can be a sign of infection. Even though you've not noticed her sneezing before now, this snot could possibly be the start of something which, if left untreated, could develop into a very serious illness.....that might sounds like lots of 'ifs' and 'buts' there but when it comes to guinea pigs their health can deteriorate alarmingly quickly when ill, so catching things early and getting things checked by a Vet when you're not sure can improve chances of a quick recovery if something is wrong.

Pebble is a very cute name. Hope she's ok.

if i take her into the vets what do you they will do if i tell them shes had a runny nose will they prescribe some antibiotics do you think I'm just so short on money i cant cope with a massive vet bill atm but i know piggies come first

Antibiotics shouldn't cost too much from the vets. I think I was charged (not including the vet appointment) around £7. However, and this isn't me trying to scare you, longer-term treatment of sick piggies can be very expensive depending on their illness.

Completely unrelated to your pig's symptoms, but I have spent nearly £700.00 on Little Pig in the last 6 weeks or so (including x-rays, ultrasounds, swabs and other tests). I would strongly recommend starting a savings account for future vet bills or getting pet insurance.

I do not have first hand experience of this as didn't get my pig from p@h, but I understand that if you keep the vet bills, they should pay you back for it.

I do think you should take your pig to the vets first thing in the morning though, if not tonight (but emergency vets cost even more).

I'll keep my fingers crossed your pig is okay.

ive just paid and spoken to an online vet who ive used before whos a specialist with 20 years guinea pig experience in the surgery and she said because the discharge was clear and its a small amount from one nostril it sounds like shes just been irritated by something in the cage so I'm just going to keep a VERY close eye on her and if i see anymore or the colour changes at all I'm taking her straight to the vets i know some of you may disagree but this ladys very good and she went into great detail about loads of symptoms etc none of which mine has and after that she explained about the different irritations to the nose which can cause a clear discharge.
