I am taking my guinea pig to the vet tomorrow morning as it's difficult to find an open vet today.

This morning I found both her eyes watery. One eye seems to especially produce some light white liquid. I also notice that she blinks quite often, unlike her sister who rarely ever closes her eyes. I removed the excess liquid under her eyes with cotton swab only to find it back to its original state within minutes.

She seems to be eating normally. Whenever I bring her fruits or vegetables, she eats it like she usually does. I'm going to take her to the vet as soon as I can, but please give me some advice.

She is a little over one years old and has been living with her sister and me for one year without a problem. She gets fresh fruits and vegetables daily and her water bottle is also refilled daily. I feed her normal guinea pig pellets and timothy hay, although two days ago they ran out of timothy hay and I temporarily switched her to alfalfa, but I will get some timothy hay tomorrow after her vet visit. She lives in a large C&C cage with aspen bedding.

Please give me any help you can offer. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Until you get her to the vet's tomorrow, bathe her eyes with warm water.
Maybe some hay poked her in the eyes that's why their weeping or is she in a draught.

Good luck at the vets tomorrow.

xx

Thanks for your advice. How exactly should I bathe her eyes? I've cleaned the areas surrounding the eye, but I'm afraid to drip anything into her eyes.

Make sure you boil some water and let it cool in a clean dish - with a cotton swab or soft tissue, wipe gently over the eye and squeeze a little of water in. Don't worry, she'll blink it out.

Good luck at the vets tomorrow, and I hope you had a good christmas. :)

Boil some water from the kettle, let is cool down then use some cotton wool, mke sure you wet all the cotton wool so none goes in her eye and make sure you wring it out so water's not dripping everywhere and just wipe her eyes.
Do it tonight and tomorrow morning and lunch time tomorrow.

Take care
xx

The white liquid you mention - is it milky in colour. If so then it is more than likely to be the fluid that their eyes naturally produce to aid their grooming. It's nothing to worry about. If the eye is red or has crusty bits forming then she could have poked herself in the eye with some hay or it may be the start of an infection.

About half way down the page it shows a picture of what the milky discharge looks like. Hope this helps :)
