Hello,
My Guinea pig buttons (boar) has a really swollen nipple, he has a black nipple so it's hard to tell whether it's red etc. it's really big and feels lumpy behind it ! I have booked an emergency appointment tomorrow at an exotic vets tomorrow, but my usual vet isn't in but aparently he's the next best one for small pets so hopefully he will be able to help. Does anyone no what it could be? I've double checked again to make sure he is well a HE! And he definitely is :( so sad! If it's a tumour I'm happy to pay for it but scared of the operation etc. Argh I'm so sad :( help

Sorry to hear this, could be a variety of different things so try not to think the worst. You have spotted it. Sometimes these can turn out to be fatty lumps. Well done for getting in at the vets so quickly. Please let us know how Buttons gets on.

:agr: it could end up being nothing.
I had Beans at the vet a few weeks ago as I felt a small lump around her nipple, my vet had a good feel and thinks it's just a fatty lump, I've to keep an eye on it incase it gets bigger (which it hasn't) but she's not really concerned about it. Try not to worry until you know what it is:nod: (easier said than done I know  )

Thank you both,
It feels really lumpy behind the nipple. Not nice :( but he doesn't seem in any discomfort to be honest still eating and drinking! but soon as you google it it comes up with mammery tumour etc and it does look like it :( do you think he will be ok in operation?

Good luck with your appointment. All GA carries risks, the experience of the vet and the age and fitness of your lovely guinea pig will be other factors. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

Hi everyone
So it was confirmed buttons indeed has a tumour :( Operation is booked for Thursday. I'm so worried he won't come around from it etc, he's still so full of life and a buzzing little piggy that it scares me to think he may not survive an operation Here's a little picture of him as a baby so cute xx

It's always worrying when they go through an operation - but unless there is an underlying problem that you and your vet are not aware of, and piggy is otherwise healthy the risks are in fact minimal - no matter the animals age (so says my vet who is a piggy specialist and keeps her own herd ) - my Bumble has come through 6 operations since last August! - fingers crossed all will be fine.

Operation was a success everyone! Vet said he started eating quite soon after, I just gave him some baytril and he's a little tired now but he's sort of chilling but eating his spring greens at the same time! ☺️ Any advice on things I should do for him now his operation is done? Like after care? x
