Hes eating then goes dramatically down hill and keeps shaking please someone must know whats up with our baby i do believe so does the vet hes alot younger then what they said he was

I don't know what could be wrong with your pig, only to say that under 200g is extremely light, it does sound like he's much, much younger than 12 weeks.

Hopefully one of the pup experts will see this thread and offer help

@Wiebke and others may be able to help you better. You are doing the right thing in feeding him with syringe food. What syringe food are you giving him? I know baby food (veg only) sometimes is used. Keep doing this and try to get some water down him too. Is he warm enough?

You sound very caring and doing your best for him and he sounds like a little fighter but it must be very upsetting for you.

Where are you located? We may be able to help recommend a guinea savvy vet for advice?

Thank you so much stuff the vets has given us called recovery hes stools are very slimey is there any vegetables or fruit that could do anything like this to make hin ill as we have been given him fruit veg believing hes older then whst he is

I'm wondering if your poor boy was taken away from his mummy too soon if he is really that tiny therefore not received the nutrients he needed.

@pig in the city had a guinea pig who was very, very small who she nursed back to health.

I think she had to feed him as his mum would have done but please wait until she has seen this thread and she may be able to advise further x

Hi! I have answered your pm.

If he is in and out of a coma as you have mentioned in your pm to me, that is very worrying as that means that it is likely that his body is already closing down. It is very likely that he was born with a congenital defect in his body and that he is now reaching the end of his life. In that case, there is unfortunately nothing you and your vets can do. :(

Please be very careful when feeding him. Don't give him more than 0.1 ml (1/10 of the syringe) at once. If he is very weak, he will struggle to swallow and you don't want anything going down the wrong way and causing trouble in the lungs. Please stop feeding if he is very apathetic and too weak swallow properly and to process food.

Lying on the side and being apathetic are sadly usually a sign that a guinea pig is dying or close to it - whether that is from a stroke, heart attack or heart/multi-organ failure. Please follow the advice in my pm.

If he is slipping in and out of a coma like state and shaking but is eating in between then I'd highly suspect he's having seizures.

All I can recommend is to keep him comfortable and try seek advice
From a more Guinea pig knowledgable vet.

Good luck x

Thank you for all your advice I'm afraid sadly humbug passed away in my arms early hours of this morning feeling very sad and emotional right now

So sorry about Humbug. RIP little guinea pig. You did all you could. I hope the other two continue to flourish.
