So I had a guinia pig until today :(
He was a silkie-american mix. Great pig, only 2 1/2 years old.
We joked that he was diabetic because he drank soooo much water, he could easily go through a gallon of water a day. He was also a little smaller for a pig.

So he was fine yesterday, my boyfriend thought he sounded a little raspy in his squeeks but that happened sometimes because he was very vocal everytime he was thirsty.

So this evening when I went in the room to visit him he was dead :(
Please give any advice you can offer.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum; I am very sorry for your sudden loss.

A necropsy (post-mortem) is the only way to know for sure, but I believe it must be performed within a few hours of death, so unfortunately I think the time frame for that has passed.

Did he have any other symptoms, was he gradually losing weight? Diabetes could have been possible, but guinea pigs with kidney failure also drink a lot and lose weight. Kidney failure may explain his apparently sudden death as well as his symptoms.

yes he was loosing weight but i thought it was due to him being diabetic and not eating alot when it got super hot out this summer in wisconsin.
so, kidney failure? what are other signs of that? that would be it. poor little thing.
