Ugh when it rains it pours. George has finally started to recover from his infected toe situation, and has been off his antibiotics for a few days (he had a little left over-the dose was bactrim twice a day for 7 days, he went 8 days before i realized how long it had been, so we still have a little left over). Well i was holding him, and took a look to see how his toe was doing, and i saw this sore? blister? something on his foot pad. i gave him a dose of some of the leftover bactrim, squirted some chlorhexidrine on the spot, and started panically googling and searching guinealynx for answers. What do you think? I could really use some advice please. Again not the best camera.

I realize his toe looks swollen still, but from a top view you can tell that it has improved.

It's difficult to tell from the photo but it could be. Does he have any heart issues at all? as it can be linked to circulatory problems. It can also be linked to systemic fungal problems or a weakened immune system due to stress or illness, so if he has been poorly lately, then that could be why. I would continue to use the Hibiscrub. Dilute 1 part Hibiscrub to 5 parts water and bathe up to 3 times a day then dry the foot gently. He can also be given anti-inflammatories. If it doesn't clear up let me know as there is another product I can suggest but I need to look it up. I would also suggest getting your vet to check it out and diagnose accordingly.

Thank you for your opinion. I don't know if he has any heart or circulatory problems. His immune system might be compromised; he did have surgery on his toe that was infected a couple of weeks ago, but he was given antibiotics and extra vitamin c, so not sure. his foot looks a little bit better today, but i will definitely take your suggestion to clean his foot 3 times a day. i heard that epsom salt soaks might be helpful, does that sound correct? obviously if it doesn't clear up he will go back to the vet. thanks :)

I am not sure about epsom salts, have only even used Hibiscrub myself on my late Nigel.

We have just noticed something very similar to this on both our Piggie Marie's back feet. She had a spay last Wednesday, and has been back to the vets 4 times since as well as the twice daily chase around the cage for meds, and some syringe feeding as well so I think she is mega stressed. Could this explain them?

We have just changed all her bedding. She is on fleece with incontinence bedding underneath for water retention.

Is there anything we can apply to help? We can't get her Spay wound wet so would something like Teatree be any good or one of the Gorgeous Guineas products?

i've heard Gorgeous Guineas has a good product; i think it's called F&M cream. unfortunately i'm in the US so it would take a long time for them to ship it to me.
