Update on Mr Wu

Saw the vet this morning. Mr Wu staying in hospital today to have extra fluids, gut stimulant etc. Vet was brilliant with him very thorough..she said although his gut sounds are a little slow it is still moving so thats a good thing and he has pooped quite a lot since his 6am feed. She also said he won't recover as quickly as other piggies after an op as he was suffering from an infection going into the op. I know he is in good hands. Worries me that shes on holiday next week tho'. Have to ring for an update after 4.30pm. Thanks everyone. Hope you and all your piggies have a lovely day x

Mr Wu - Wondering if he needs extra pain relief

All went well at the vets with Mr Wu this morning. But he doesn't seems as bright this afternoon. When I brought him home yesterday he sat on my lap and ate 4 dandelion leaves and some romaine lettuce and took his recovery food. His bowels are very active and now his poohs look normal. He had his recovery food this morning and again took a small portion of romaine lettuce. I offered him same dandelion leaves lunchtime but he wasn't interested and neither was he interested in the romaine lettuce. He did take his recovery food and even finished the lot this time. However I can hear him making grinding noises this afternoon - its like he's chewing. I am wondering if he is in pain. He has had Metacam today but is not due another dose until tomorrow morning? Please what do you think? Energy wise he is much the same - very tired.

ah sorry to hear Mr. Wu had to have a night at the vets !
I'm hoping that you've been able to speak to them re pain meds? I'd even speak to an emergency vet and ask advice re giving more.

COME ON MR. WU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Handfeeding - How long?

Thankyou Glynis. I did take Mr Wu back to the emergency vet Saturday afternoon, she gave him some some more painkiller and scanned for his bladder, he does have a small haematoma in his bladder but she said that will disperse, she took his temp, respiration and heart rate all normal. He was better when we brought him home and stopped the grinding and took his recovery food and had a nibble on a dandelion leaf. I have continued since with his regular handfeeds - he managed a small bit of romaine lettuce this morning but it is such an effort for him to eat by himself - saps all his energy.
I am still continuing giving him extra water - his pooh looks very normal although I have to palpate his rear end to help him clear what he has pooped as he doesn't like to move around. Taking him back to the vet tonight for another check just a bit worried as not one of the two vets that has been dealing with him - he does have another appointment tomorrow with one of his usual vets. I just wondered - have you or anybody had to handfeed for any length of time? And is there a point when it becomes detrimental - worried he's not grinding down his teeth properly. Thank you xx

I think Mr Wu is giving up the fight. Yesterday I was hopeful, hubby gave him 5 small pieces of Romaine and syringed him some water. When I got home from work in the afternoon he took 4 tiny pieces of celery and hubby picked him some fresh grass although I had to feed him blade by blade but again he only took a few blades before he wanted to be left alone. Last night I only managed to get 2mls of recovery mix down him, syringed some water and some cranberry juice. This morning he took a tiny piece of of romaine about 1" diameter and two tiny pieces of celery. I then gave him his metacam after a struggle. He refused to take any of his other meds and really struggled when I tried to give him is recovery. He just has no energy, he doesn't move around. I am wondering whether he wants to go - my boy has been through so much. We are back at the vets this afternoon :(

Poor Mr Wu, how did the vets go this afternoon? Keeping him in my thoughts x
