Walters breathing sounded a little odd this morning, like he had a cold.
I managed to get an appointment for today and the vet confirmed my worst fear, my baby Walter has pneumonia.
He's given me some Sulfatrim antibiotic to syringe feed him 0.3ml twice a day for the next 2 weeks. Walter has a follow up appointment booked for next week just to see how he is getting on with the medication.

Is there anything that I can do to help him other than the antibiotics? I cleaned the cage as soon as I got home just in case.
Gus seems alright, no breathing issues or behaviour changes. I've kept them together to minimise stress but will be taking Gus with us next week just to be sure.
Any advice you have is so welcome, I've never had a piggy with pneumonia before. Thanks :)

That's Septrin isn't it? When my Buzz had Pneumonia he was on diuretic for fluid on his chest, Bisolvon for mucous in his nasal passages, steam therapy with Olbas oil and the antibiotic was Zithromax. Did the vet confirm there was no fluid? Is his breathing still laboured? Is he eating at all?

Perhaps you could get you vet to take a nose swob and get it culchured to identife what bactera is responibal,
Then the approreate antibiotic could be given.

Though as far as l am aware ,most of the antibiotics are broud spectrem any way.

But it would do no harm to discuse this with your vet. As they say nothing vencherd nothing gained

I'm not sure about the septrin, I'm not savvy with piggy meds. I think it's a broad spectrum antibiotic. There was no mention of any other treatment. I've got a follow up with him next week, I'll be asking him about a diuretic.
Walter is exactly the same as usual, throwing his weight around, chasing Gus and eating like a horse. You'd never know anything was wrong if it wasn't for the sniffy - like breathing. I'm hoping that I've caught it early.

Can definitely recommend a diuretic if they can hear fluid on his lungs, it help Cookie no end. Sending your little dude lots of love x
