Hi guys another rookie question.
My guinea has just had diarohea all over me! I have fed him a little bit of gem lettuce today as well as his pellets and he has drank a lot of water. He actually ate his poo off me!
Should i worry?
Any help would be fab, thanks guys!

Hi, what sort of veg and how much do you normally give him? :)

He sounds like he may have an upset tummy so I'd leave him off the veg/fruit for about 48 hours and she if there's any improvement. Just feed him his pellets and plenty of hay. This usually solves the problem. Piggies usually eat their poo. This is perfectly normal. By doing this they are taking vitamins and minerals back into their bodies ( I think ). Piggies can occasionally cough like we can. Put your ear to his chest to see if it sounds wheezy. If it does then it could be the start of an urti which will need treating with antibiotics.

was it real diarohea or just a soft poo? If just a soft poo this could be normal as normally they eat these ones striaght from their bottoms. (this is what they are doing when they stand on their hind legs and look like they might be cleaning their tummy / lower regions).

Hi thanks everyone
Yes it was not just soft poo defo diarrohea as it was like "half a poo" and ery wet on my arm....lovely! I'll keep him off the veggies and monitor his cough hopefully nothing to worry about!
Thank * again

Also altering the veggie diet will help prevent recurrances of this problem. Cucumber and lettuce are both of low nutrition and high water - it is fine to feed cucumber and various lettuces each day as long as they are balanced out with high nutrition foods like peppers and coriander. Carrot can be fed daily but only in small amounts (as it is high in calcium). You need to aim for at least 3 different veg a day, totalling a minimum of one handful per pig.
