Hi, This is a plea to any fellow Piggie owners that may live in my area.

I have two older piggies and unfortunately they have both had to have antibiotics recently, one of them following surgery and the other for a respiratory infection. I am sure you will know only too well how antibiotics devastate the gut flora of GPs and my piggies have both suffered, the post op piggie is picking up nicely his poops are getting back to normal, a little on the soft side but he is putting on weight and is back to his usual self. My other piggie (both are rescues) is not, hes been given fibreplex and supreme rescue food, he is up and down gaining and loosing weight again, he is weaker than his adopted brother, 600g when I got him C vit deficient and with a missing front tooth, he normally averages 900g +/- 20g but over the past couple of months he's lost 150g. Reluctantly. though not wanting to cause him any more distress I have had him back to the vets this week to have his teeth trimmed. He has been harrassing the other piggie trying to eat his poos to the extent that I have had to separate them, I know its a natural behavour and I have after previous antibiotics mashed poo from healthy piggie with critical care and fed it to him. this has helped his gut get back to normal, but because healthier piggie has had antibiotics too - its not working.

I really need some poo from a healthy GP to treat him with - I dont know anyone else that keeps guinea pigs - I was hoping that someone on here might just live within range & would be willing to let me raid their piggies deposits. Sorry to be so long winded but I felt I needed to explain, I have him at the vets regularly to keep on top of his teeth problems and have him checked as he is a little bit fragile at times the other boy has only been once for a check up and been in rude health until this, when a monstrous cyst appeared on him overnight hence the surgery. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Also would be very useful if anyone might know how long the probiotic in poop lasts for.

Many thanks

Hi! Please be aware that poo soup is only effective if the poo is freshly laid there and then - you'll basically need an in-house provider.

Hi, I have success! Been in contact with a lady nearby, the local wildlife sanctuary put me in touch with her. I got a fresh delivery first thing this morning and administered it immediately. I am now watching them carefully, I put them back together yesterday and the behaviour of my weaker piggie harassing the other for poop has diminished, since lunchtime he hasn't tried to at all. I just hope that he will begin to pull round now and start to put some weight back on.

Thanks, I was lucky enough to get some very fresh this morning - I am keeping my fingers crossed and watching them carefully and can try again in a few days if I need to.
