A lady came into our vet to make an appointment for a stray cat she has adopted- she's been in a couple of times recently because he has a sore mouth, and although on a pension wanted to help him, thankfully the CPL are helping with the bill which could end up quite large! She was telling me about her neighbour's pig, who is about 4 and they have never looked after it, and she sneaks in to feed it and clean it out. She asked what else she could do and I said 'I would offer to take it', kind of hinting we would take it on. She opened her eyes and suggested this would be a good idea, she would offer to take him on ( obviously not realising what I meant) however I said if she took him I would give her a hutch and run for him. Although she may not be able to afford treatment, he will be well looked after and I feel I can keep an eye on things. To be honest, she must have been feeding him well, because it has been so cold outside here this winter I'm surprised he has survived- if she gets him and he becomes a concern, I can still offer to take him.

That sounds like a wonderful idear.. and she obviously has feelings for the wee guy, what a lovely person.

Now these are the people that do deserve animals! I hope the people let her have him and what a very generous offer, to give her a hutch and run.

I'm glad to see there good people out there, and common decency is very much still a part of humman beings.

I have been doubting it, recently thank you for sharing this story cheered me up some! :)

AWWW good for you!

Let us know what happens wont you? Poor guy is lucky to have her (and you)

Maybe if she gets the pig you can help educate her in what piggies need, good on you for offering a hutch and run and i hope all your animals are ok! can't work out whether you were working at the vet or there with your pets... rolleyes

I work for 3 hours a day in the local vet branch ( the times it is open):)- I'm the receptionist, animal handler, cleaner, stock taker etc.
I usually have an animal or 2 down with me, because the rest of the time we run an animal sanctuary.:)

I think many people who work in rescue only see the bad side of people. After fostering for a local rescue I felt the same way. I was the asked to work for the local vet and was hesitant because I thought they would disappoint me.
However, I have been given a new respect for people and my vets- so many people will put a huge amount of effort into their pet, its just in the rescue situation we see the worst. My vets will do all they can to help genuine people, and save the animal.

I hope that between you and the old lady you can work something out for the poor piggy!

I would LOVE to have a job like yours. Just wish I could afford to do those hours. :(

Glad the piggy is being looked after.
