Hello all,

I took Rufus out for a pamper session and when I went to clip his toenails on his front right foot, I noticed one of his toenails has been ripped off :(

I don't know how it's happened but I feel so guilty :(

He is still eating and playing, but when he is sitting, it's like he can't put weight on it and is tucking his paw under his chin. There's no fresh blood but the wound is still open and very swollen.

Should I take him to the vet?

Thanks in advance,

Lynda xx

OUCHIES :{
He must've ripped it out somehow........gosh they can so worry us.
Lynda for safeties sake i'd call the vets and ask to see them, also ask what you can do for him in the meantime.....i'd carefully wipe the area to make sure no germs.......with pre boiled and COOLED water.
Maybe some pain relief too? have you any?
I'm sure our more experienced people will advise you soon xx>>>

Make sure that the rip edge is disinfected. It is may hurt for a day ro two, but afterwards, things will be back to normal and most nails will evetnually grow back, if a bit misshapen at first.

Ta muchly for the replies :)

I've bathed his wee paw in salt water a few times, and cleaned out his cage but left out the sawdust and hay, just in case anything works its way in.

I'm taking him to the vets tomorrow to get him checked out properly to be sure :) xx
