I have such a heavy heart writing a tribute to my Lily because she was a special piggy and also because it spells the end of being owned by guinea pigs for the foreseeable future.

Lily was, what I would class as, my biggest success story. She was the victim of my hubby spotting yet another solo guinea pig in the pets at home adoption centre when we weren't at full capacity. He called me over... Hmm there's two rosettes on the back so part Abyssinian and white with pink eyes. Poor pig isn't going to be the first choice for many new owners... Well if it's female (the name Pigz didn't give gender away) then we'll take her. The staff member picked her up to check the sex and she screamed the shop down, I have never heard a piggy scream like that before. So then comes her story, sold by the store as a baby and put straight into a two storey hutch where she quickly fell off the ramp and broke her leg. She was returned to the store and exchanged for a non injured one and had then only been handled to medicate. Well I knew she would never get homed if I didn't take her so home she came.

It was a long process but I still remember when she stopped screaming at being handled and it felt like a huge breakthrough. She never did love human contact but she was content to be handled and even cuddled for short periods. She remained timid but showed signs of being happy with her cagemates and, although it feels like she passed too soon, I have no doubt that she passed happy and loved.

I could upload a million photos but I will just add one and a link to my favourite video when, as a youngster, she first showed me how happy she was in her home 🥰

So sorry for your loss. I can relate as we just lost our beloved Lilly as well. They're never with us long enough, are they? I'm so glad that your Lily had a loving home with you. It sounds like she was very lucky to land on her paws with you. Maybe our Lillies can meet up at the rainbow bridge.
