hi guys haven't been on here in ages and had to re register but hey i'm here now.

I just wondered if any body had some advice . I'm taking my guinea pig "stinky" to the vets later just to get checked over, he's lost quite a bit of weight and seems to sound very bunged up today and struggling to breathe. We've got a 3 month old baby boy so the guinea pigs stayed with my in laws for 6 weeks while we were getting settled in so maybe its an attention thing? we used to get the guinea pigs out for a cuddle most nights but well haven't really had time unfortunately. They were both big and quite fat guinea pigs whereas stinky seems very light now. He's eating a lot of dried food and is drinking quite a lot. Apart from that he just seems a bit quiet.

Forgot to tell you they are about 3 maybe 4 years old and are indoor guinea pigs.

Any info would be appreciated,

thanks helen x

So sorry your little one is poorly. Make sure the vet does a thorough check, including teeth (even though you say he is eating). Also ask the vet to have a good feel round the abdominal area for anything sinister.

That is what I would do. Good luck.

It sounds like a respiratory infection. Piggies don't lose weight and have congestion without true illness; it's not in their nature to do anything for attention (other than wheeking and biting the bars!).

A trip to the vet is important. Good luck.
