on arriving back of holiday last August I noticed Pepper had lost some weight. On checking it was about 500g.
We did the usual vets visits and by November they finally did her teeth. With no improvement they referred me to a specialist who did her teeth again and there was improvement. In January her poop became runny and she had a weepy eye so I went back to the specialist who gave me maxi troll which cleared the eye but there is intermittent improvement on the poop.
We have removed veg and dry food and that helped a bit. We have had cultures done which were negative. We have limited veg. So far she is semi poop solid. She is now putting on weight but is only 879g.
Any thoughts.

She is not a great hay lover and I've tried bought hay and some from a friend. She eats just grass.

Hi!
Could you please add your country or UK county to your details, so we can help you most efficiently. Click on your username at the top, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. That will make it appear underneath your username in every post. We have got members from all over the world, so background, climate, brands etc. vary quite majorly. Thank you!

Your piggy's teeth may need another check; guinea pig teeth grow very quickly and they usually need several rounds of treatment as soon as they start overgrowing (not when they have overgrown again) to stabilise them. If a piggy cannot chew and/or swallow properly, this can then have major knock-on effects on the digestion. Please always see a vet promptly when your guinea pig has got runny poos.

Please start offering syringe feed for fibre and take her off any fresh food until the poos have firmed up again. Around 80% of the daily food intake should be fibre, so if she is not eating much hay, she is missing out on the mainstay and her guts will react.
Our step-by-step syringe feeding guide has also got a section for caring for dental guinea pigs: Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

I am tagging @furryfriends (TEAS) and @MintyAndGarry (TEAS) into the thread for you; they have lots of practical experience in caring for dental guinea pigs and all the side effects.

Lovely thanks.
I am syringe feeding and she has also had several teeth checks. Forgot to say.

Have you tried a course of fibreplex to help steady the guts; that can sometimes do the trick.

How piggy savvy are your vets? If you can, I would recommend to that you travel as far as Northampton to see one of the most experienced guinea pig vets in the country. Unlike many other vets, he only sees cats, rabbits and small furries; and he sees guinea pigs from all over the country, often those where other vets struggle. I know several people from your area who see Simon Maddock with piggies of theirs.

We have had a course of fibre plex too. My vets are not at all guinea pig savvy so I have taken her to a man in Edgbaston and he has been treating her.
This weekend we have had a bit of light. She has had checks to ensure there is nothing contagious and I have managed to get her out on the gras with her sisters. She was so happy. I can't leave her in the hutch with them as it's cold so we have had Sister time.
I am continuing with her regime and the poop is getting more solid. So who knows? I think it's a case of fingers crossed but if not then it's a trip to Northampton. Thank you
