Oh goodness, I wish I hadnt looked. Those poor piggies. How could anyone let them get like that? :tickedoff:

Flowers skin looked really painful!

I've seen Alfie before, he was painfully thin poor boy. Flower, poor wee girl she looks so sad and in pain!

But how fab they are doing well, all down to you Cheryl, congrats on getting this pigs back to full health! O0

OMG i nearly cried when i saw flower! :'( she looks like shes doing so well now and looks happy, you have done a great job with her :smitten:

its unbelieveable what some people put animals through, why not do something when she was in that state, the poor girl :'( :tickedoff:

Thanks Cheryl!

Do flower and alfie have new homes or are the too bad to leave?

Alfie is staying with you because of his dental probs?

No problem ;) Flower is now living with a group of girlies with a vet nurse friend of mine. Alfie lives here now with Quaver in my bedroom 8)

i love the picture of alfie showing off his piggy lips/nose :smitten: :smitten:

would you mind if the pictures of flower were used in other, similar projects aswell?

I just think that those pictures are perfect for giving a wakeupcall... i have been wanting to do a leaflet about this sort of thing for ages... along the lines of "why you shouldnt support petshops that sell live animals" then going on to how this promotes impulse buying, how then people lose interest or how people think piggies dont need vets, you get my drift, and I just think some pictures like that might bring the message home a bit better...

Those 'before' pictures would be enough to make me change my ways if I was a baddie! Poor Flowers skin looked so sore. I can't get the image out of my mind. All my piggys are getting extra cuddles at bedtime tonight, because you have made me an emotional wreck!

I'd like to use these pictures for my coursework on neglect too, if thats OK? I can reference you, if you like. But they won't be published as such, just used to illustrate my writing about it. Only my tutor will see them.

I want to highlight that it's not just dogs and cats that get abused. Buns, pigs and hammies do too.!

My teacher supports rescues so i hope she likes it.

ALL pet animals do. I saw an RSPCA program once where they rescused a tortoise that was covered in glue. :'(

spgrescue, thankyou, they will be very useful.

What was wrong with Flower's skin? Was it mites or a fungal infection or something?

What about your picture Karen, was that mites? It looks ouchy. Poor piggie. :'(

Mr. Melt was treated for mites and fungal though it was mostly mites. He was from an RSPCA neglect case and was living on his own outside in a hutch. The only other guinea was Martha who was fine :) but there were lots of pregnant rabbits.

Still looking for a home by the way and has 2 lovely girlfriends that would like to come with him :)

I hate neglect. Its so sad. :'(

If I had room I'd take Mr. Melt and his girlfriends. A couple of my piggies are rescues and its so satisfying when you spoil them and you know they have come from a place where they didnt get anything.

He's very gorgeous and so calm, as are Chase and Miss Daydream, someone will have a lovely trio :)

Flower had a little bit of fungal but it was mostly parasitic.

Karen - next time I need some names I am asking you............I love the name Mr Melt ;D ;D ;D

OMG now i'm :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
You girls do such a brilliant job i love you all :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
thankyou from all the neglected piggies you've rescued O0 :smitten:

That so sad :'( how can people leave defenceless animals in these states?! I'm just thankful there are people like you Karen and Cheryl in the world you do a great job x

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Oh, all those poor animals out there, rescues deserve much more help financially, it is heartbreaking to think that people neglect their animals.

that is discusting how can people treat such gorgeous animals with such little respect it makes me feel sick and angry just thinking about it
>:( >:( >:( :( :( :(

Just wanted to say "well done" once again Cheryl (and all you rescues), you do such a fantastic job and what wonderfully happy looking piggies in the "after" shots. :smitten: :smitten:

I remember seeing a picture of Flower before and sitting here with tears running down my cheeks.....go girl look at you now >:D >:D 88)

My hat goes off to all that love and care for these poor little ones at the rescues O0

The funny thing is it doesn't actually take a lot of trouble to get them right (can't speak for Cheryl), once they start on the correct diet and skin has the Gorgeous Guineas and mites treatment their well in no time. There are more dramatic cases like Nibbles who had an internal abdominal abscess and more than doubled in weight while she was here (a hard thing to do when your 5) but for me these are in the minority. Mine are mostly low level neglect.

I agree, in many cases it doesnt take much to sort them out, if only the owners would have done it then none of these poor piggies would have suffered ::) With Alfie it was just a simple case of sorting his teeth out (which I do without anaesthetic) and putting him on a good diet and look how far he has come :) I was giving him a cuddle tonight and realised just how much of a porker he is becoming, obviously making up for lost time ;D He actually looks a little odd because his body is lovely and chunky but his head is still tiny :o The worst cases are usually the ones that come in with really bad fungal problems as they can sometimes take weeks to get right. I think we would have a lot more work on our hands if it wasnt for the GG products, they make treatment a lot easier O0

omg I'm nearly in tears :'( those poor piggies! they look so happy and well now :smitten: how could anybody let them get that bad? i really dont understand what it would take to make some people realise what the piggies were/are going through :(
